<32nd National Hanji Craft Competition Grand Prize. Song Seung-hyo - Eternal Rules>
In the modern category, the work "Eternal Rules" by artist Song Seung-hyo was honored with the grand prize at the 32nd National Hanji Craft Competition.
This competition, organized by Jeonju City and hosted by the Jeonju Cultural Foundation, evaluated works that added new sculptural senses and creative interpretations to the traditional beauty of hanji. Winners were selected in various categories based on criteria such as sculptural quality, creativity, completeness, and the expression of hanji's material characteristics.
This year, a total of 81 works were awarded across traditional, modern, cultural product, and other categories. "Eternal Rules" received high praise for incorporating a modern sculptural beauty into the unique texture and color of hanji, creating a new sculptural language. The judging panel remarked that this year's entries stood out for their diverse attempts to reinterpret hanji with both traditional values and contemporary sensibilities.
The award ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on October 8 at the special stage of the Korea Traditional Culture Center, where the opening ceremony of the 30th Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival will be held.
