<8일 창극 청 시연회 장면>

전북특별자치도립국악원 창극단의 제58회 정기공연 창극 ‘청’이 오는 18일 오후 7시 30분과 19일 오후 3시 한국소리문화의전당 모악당에서 열린다.

이번에 선보일 창극 청은 기존의 심청이 강조하던 효(孝)의 수식어를 걷어내고자 다양한 변화를 꾀했다.

창극‘청’은 <길>이라는 요소를 중심으로 이야기가 전개된다. 심청의 서사에서 삶과 죽음 그리고 환생의 3가지 구성에 주목하여 첫 번째 삶에서는‘평범한 인간’으로, 두 번째 죽음에서는‘자기 희생’으로, 세 번째 환생을 통해 세상을 이롭게 하는‘영웅’으로 등장하는 모습을 그려낸다.

장면은 총 2막 12장으로 구성되어 있다. 1막은 심청의 탄생부터 자신의 운명을 받아들이며 바다로 뛰어드는 순간까지 총 6장으로 구성되어 있으며, 2막은 인당수에 몸은 던진 심청의 환생부터 아버지 심봉사와의 재회까지 한순간도 시선을 뗄 수 없는 몰입감을 담아냈다.

이번 공연의 가장 큰 볼거리는 심청이가 인당수에 빠지는 장면이다. 미리 촬영된 수중촬영을 3D영상 작업을 통해 입체적으로 구현했다. 또한 용궁의 장면은 빛의 반사효과를 극대화한 디자인으로 모악당 전체에 시공간의 착시효과를 불러일으키도록 제작했다.

이외에도 다양한 영상효과와 다이나믹한 요소가 더해져 작품의 서사를 더욱 빛낸다.

김차경 창극단 예술감독이 직접 작창에 참여했다. 대표적으로 한이 깊이 서린 상여소리에 다른 가사를 첨가하여 힘을 덧댔으며, 합창도 이면에 맞게 새롭게 작창했다.

풍성한 음악을 위한 작곡 방향도 눈에 띈다. 전통판소리 어법을 살리면서도 서양 화성을 붙이는 등 새로운 곡 해석을 통해 청자들에게 극적인 상황을 이해시킨다.

제작진은 김차경 예술감독을 필두로 양수연 연출가와 국내 최고의 무대‧조명‧영상‧의상 디자인팀이 합류해 최고의 무대를 구성했다.

주요 배역은 더블캐스팅으로 꾸려졌다. 18일에는 한단영 단원이 심청 역에, 심봉사 역은 김도현 단원이 출연하며, 19일에는 국립창극단 청년단원을 역임한 채정원 소리꾼이 심청 역을 맡았으며 심봉사 역은 임현빈 남원시립국악단 악장이 열연을 펼친다.

창극단 김차경 예술감독은 “심청이라는 역할과 심청을 주제로 한 다양한 창극을 수없이 경험하고 보았지만, 창극‘청’은 그 어느 작품보다 훌륭한 작품으로 완성되었다.”라며“단원들의 개별 기량, 작품성, 무대구성이 완벽하게 어우러진 이번 공연은 향후 창극 심청의 새로운 표본이 될 것”이라고 전했다.

The 58th regular performance of the Jeonbuk Provincial Government's Changgeukdan, titled "Cheong," will be held on the 18th at 7:30 p.m. and on the 19th at 3 p.m. at the Moak Hall of the Korea Sound Culture Center.

The Changgeuk "Cheong" to be presented this time has sought various changes by removing the epithet of filial piety emphasized by the existing Simcheong.

The Changgeuk "Cheong" unfolds its story around the element of "road." Focusing on the three components of life, death, and rebirth in Simcheong's narrative, it depicts the transformation of appearing as an "ordinary human" in the first life, as a "self-sacrifice" in the second death, and as a "hero" who benefits the world through rebirth.

The performance consists of a total of 2 acts with 12 scenes. The first act, from Simcheong's birth to the moment she jumps into the sea accepting her fate, is composed of 6 scenes. The second act captures the moment of Simcheong's rebirth after throwing herself into the sea to meet her father, Sim Bongsa, creating an immersive experience that keeps the audience captivated.

The highlight of this performance is the scene where Simcheong falls into the water. Through 3D visual effects created by pre-recorded underwater filming, it was implemented in a three-dimensional manner. Additionally, the scene at the Dragon Palace was designed to maximize the reflection of light effects, creating an illusion of space-time throughout the Moak Hall.

Various visual effects and dynamic elements enhance the narrative of the work.

Kim Cha-kyung, the artistic director of the Changgeukdan, directly participated in the creation. For example, he added different lyrics to the deeply moving Sangyeo song to enhance its power, and also composed new choir music to match the theme.

The direction of composition for the rich music is also noticeable. By preserving traditional pansori techniques while incorporating Western harmonies, the new interpretations of the songs help the audience understand the dramatic situations.

Led by artistic director Kim Cha-kyung, the production team, including director Yang Soo-yeon and the nation's top stage, lighting, video, and costume design team, created the best stage.

The main roles are double-cast. On the 18th, Han Dan-young will play Simcheong, and Kim Do-hyun will play Sim Bongsa. On the 19th, Chae Jeong-won, a young member of the National Changgeukdan, will take on the role of Simcheong, while Lim Hyun-bin, the conductor of the Namwon City National Gugak Orchestra, will perform as Sim Bongsa.

Kim Cha-kyung, the artistic director of the Changgeukdan, stated, "I have experienced and seen countless Changgeuk performances based on the role of Simcheong and various Changgeuk works centered around Simcheong, but 'Cheong' has been completed as a more excellent work than any other." He added, "The individual skills, artistic qualities, and stage compositions of the members have perfectly come together in this performance, which will become a new model for future Changgeuk Simcheong."
