전주 서학동예술마을에 위치한 서학동사진미술관에서 송윤경 작가의 첫 개인전 《그리고 봄》이 4월 8일부터 13일까지 개최된다. 이번 전시는 민화의 전통성과 현대성을 아우르며, 옛 그림 속 상서로운 뜻과 그에 담긴 보이지 않는 의미를 함께 나누는 자리가 되고 있다.

작가는 우연한 계기로 방문한 전주에서 서학동사진미술관의 한옥 구조와 정원, 골목이 주는 정취에 매료되어 전시를 기획하게 되었다. 전통 민화의 맥을 이어가는 동시에 현대적 감성을 더한 작품 27점을 통해 관람객들에게 따뜻한 행운과 행복의 메시지를 전하고 있다.

전시작품에는 장생도, 화조도, 모란도, 화접도 같은 전통 민화뿐만 아니라, ‘행복해지기 10분 전’, ‘누군가를 맞이하는 마음’, ‘My Garden’, ‘행운 가득’ 등 작가의 개성과 서정적 해석이 돋보이는 현대 민화 작품도 함께 소개된다. 정교한 표현과 높은 완성도로 민화에 대한 이해와 감동을 이끌어낸다는 평가를 받고 있다.

전시 운영 시간은 매일 오전 10시 30분부터 오후 6시까지이며, 월요일은 휴관한다. 관람은 무료다.

서울을 기반으로 활동 중인 송윤경 작가는 조선민화박물관과 한국민화협회, 홍익아트, 한국전통민화협회 등에서 주최한 공모전에서 장려상, 우수상, 특선 등을 수상한 바 있다. 국내외 민화 전시에 다수 참여해온 작가는 이번 전시를 통해 관람객들에게 “보이는 것에 담긴 보이지 않는 것의 의미를 채우며 행운과 행복에 이르는 마음”을 전하고자 한다.

짧은 봄의 순간처럼 스쳐가는 감정과 기억들 속에서 따뜻한 위로를 건네는 전시 《그리고 봄》은 서학동에서 민화가 지닌 깊은 울림과 새로운 생명력을 전하는 시간이다.

Artist Song Yoon-kyung is holding her first solo exhibition, And Then, Spring, at the Seohakdong Photo Art Museum, located in the Seohakdong Art Village of Jeonju, from April 8 to 13. This exhibition embraces both the traditional and contemporary aspects of minhwa, or Korean folk painting, offering viewers a chance to reflect on the auspicious meanings and hidden messages within these age-old images.

Song was inspired to hold the exhibition after a chance visit to Jeonju, where she was captivated by the museum's hanok (traditional Korean house) structure, its garden, and the charm of the surrounding alleys. Featuring 27 pieces that blend the lineage of traditional minhwa with a modern sensibility, the exhibition delivers warm messages of fortune and happiness to its visitors.

The exhibition includes classic minhwa themes such as jangsaengdo (paintings of longevity symbols), hwajodo (flower and bird paintings), morando (peony paintings), and hwajeopdo (butterfly and flower paintings), as well as Song's contemporary works like Ten Minutes Before Happiness, A Heart Ready to Welcome Someone, My Garden, and Full of Luck. Her detailed expression and high level of artistry have earned praise for deepening appreciation and emotional connection with minhwa.

The exhibition is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except on Mondays, and admission is free.

Based in Seoul, Song Yoon-kyung has received awards including honorable mention, excellence award, and special selection from competitions hosted by the Joseon Minhwa Museum, the Korea Minhwa Association, Hongik Art, and the Korea Traditional Minhwa Association. Having participated in numerous domestic and international minhwa exhibitions, Song hopes to convey to viewers “a heart that reaches happiness and good fortune by filling the unseen meaning within the visible.”

Like fleeting moments of spring, the exhibition And Then, Spring offers gentle comfort through emotion and memory, sharing the deep resonance and new vitality of minhwa from Seohak-dong.
