완주군시설관리공단(이사장 이희수)은 제55회 지구의 날을 맞아 22일 봉동읍 일원에서 환경보호의 중요성을 알리고 친환경 생활 실천을 독려하는 ‘지구의 날 캠페인’을 전개했다.

지구의 날은 1970년 미국에서 처음 시작된 세계적인 환경 캠페인으로, 매년 4월 22일을 지구 환경 보전의 날로 기념해 전 세계적으로 다양한 환경 관련 행사가 펼쳐진다. 특히 지구의 날은 기후 위기와 환경오염 문제의 심각성을 환기하고, 일상 속 작은 실천을 통해 지속 가능한 미래를 만들어가자는 취지를 담고 있다.

이번 캠페인에서 공단 직원들은 저녁 8시부터 10분간 진행된 전국 소등행사 참여를 시민들에게 독려했다. 단 10분간의 소등만으로도 온실가스 감축에 실질적인 효과가 있다는 점에서, 이 행사는 대표적인 생활 속 친환경 실천 사례로 꼽힌다.

또한, ‘수소도시 완주’의 정체성을 강조하며 친환경 에너지 사용의 중요성을 알리고, 일상 속 에너지 절약과 지속 가능한 삶의 전환을 함께 제안했다.

이희수 이사장은 “지구의 날이 단지 하루의 기념일에 그치지 않고, 모두가 환경보호의 중요성을 인식하고 실천할 수 있는 계기가 되길 바란다”며 “앞으로도 공단은 지역사회와 함께 친환경 실천문화 확산에 앞장서겠다”고 밝혔다.

During this campaign, corporation employees encouraged citizens to participate in the nationwide lights-out event held for 10 minutes from 8 p.m. The event is considered a representative example of eco-friendly practices in daily life, as even a 10-minute lights-out period has a substantial impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Moreover, emphasizing the identity of 'Hydrogen City Wanju,' the campaign also highlighted the importance of using eco-friendly energy and proposed energy-saving practices in daily life and transitioning to sustainable living.

Director Lee Hee-soo expressed, "I hope that Earth Day will not only be a day of commemoration but also serve as an opportunity for everyone to recognize the importance of environmental protection and take action," adding, "In the future, the corporation will continue to take the lead in promoting a culture of eco-friendly practices in collaboration with the local community."
