전주·군산·진안·장수·순창 지역 YMCA 소속 청소년들이 제21대 대통령선거를 맞아 오는 5월 10일(금) 오전 11시 전주 풍패지관 앞에서 ‘청소년 모의투표 전북 출범식’을 개최한다.

이번 행사는 선거권이 없는 청소년들이 정치적 주체로 참여하는 모의투표 캠페인의 일환으로, 전북에서만 1만 명, 전국적으로는 10만 명의 청소년 참여를 목표로 하고 있다. 전북에서는 전주YMCA, 군산YMCA, 순창YMCA, 장수YMCA, 진안YMCA 청소년들이 연합해 ‘전북YMCA청소년모의투표준비위원회’를 구성하고, “청소년이 보이는 대한민국”이라는 슬로건 아래 활동을 시작했다.

청소년 모의투표는 단순한 선거 체험을 넘어, 청소년 당사자들이 직접 설계하고 운영하는 주체적 정치 참여운동으로 주목받고 있다. 청소년들은 민주주의 사회의 구성원으로서 실제로 정치에 의견을 내고 참여하는 경험을 통해 민주시민으로서의 의식을 높이고자 한다.

이번 캠페인은 한국YMCA전국연맹, 한국청소년정책연대, 청소년YMCA전국대표자회가 공동으로 주관하며, 온라인과 오프라인을 아우르는 모의투표로 진행된다. 전북YMCA청소년모의투표준비위원회는 지역거점으로서 참여 청소년 조직에 집중할 계획이다.

주최 측은 “이번 활동은 단발성 이벤트가 아니라 청소년 참정권 확대와 제도화를 위한 사회적 논의를 촉진하는 계기가 될 것”이라며 “미국, 독일, 일본 등에서는 이미 제도화된 청소년 모의투표를 우리 사회도 제도적으로 뒷받침해야 한다”고 밝혔다.

전북YMCA청소년모의투표준비위원회는 청소년들이 단순한 ‘미래 유권자’가 아니라 ‘오늘의 민주시민’임을 확인하고, 이들의 정치 참여가 지역과 사회를 변화시키는 힘이 되기를 기대하고 있다.

Youth members affiliated with YMCA in Jeonju, Gunsan, Jinan, Jangsu, and Suncheon regions are set to hold a 'Youth Mock Election Jeonbuk Launch Ceremony' on May 10th (Friday) at 11 a.m. in front of the Pungpaeji Hall in Jeonju in preparation for the 21st presidential election.

This event is part of a mock voting campaign where youth without voting rights participate as political agents, aiming for the participation of 10,000 youths in Jeonbuk and 100,000 nationwide. In Jeonbuk, youth from Jeonju YMCA, Gunsan YMCA, Suncheon YMCA, Jangsu YMCA, and Jinan YMCA have united to form the 'Jeonbuk YMCA Youth Mock Election Preparation Committee' and have started activities under the slogan "A South Korea where youth are visible."

The youth mock election is gaining attention as a proactive political participation movement designed and operated directly by the youth themselves, going beyond a simple election experience. Through expressing opinions and participating in politics, the youth aim to raise awareness of themselves as democratic citizens.

This campaign is jointly organized by the National YMCA of Korea, the Korean Youth Policy Association, and the National Representatives of Youth YMCA, and will be conducted through a mock vote that encompasses both online and offline platforms. The Jeonbuk YMCA Youth Mock Election Preparation Committee plans to focus on organizing participating youth organizations as regional hubs.

The organizers stated, "This activity will not be a one-time event but will serve as a catalyst for social discussions on expanding and institutionalizing youth participation in decision-making," adding, "Countries like the United States, Germany, and Japan have already institutionalized youth mock elections, and our society should also support it institutionally."

The Jeonbuk YMCA Youth Mock Election Preparation Committee hopes to confirm that youth are not just 'future voters' but 'today's democratic citizens,' and anticipates that their political participation will become a force for change in the local community and society.
