노동당은 6월 2일, 한국서부발전 태안발전본부에서 또다시 하청노동자가 기계에 끼여 숨진 사고와 관련해 “김용균 이후 무엇이 바뀌었느냐”고 강하게 비판했다.

이날 오후 2시 35분경, 태안발전본부에서 선반작업을 하던 51세 하청노동자가 기계에 손과 머리가 끼는 사고로 사망했다. 노동당은 해당 사고가 2018년 고(故) 김용균 노동자가 사망했던 같은 발전소에서 발생했다는 점을 강조하며, “당시 김용균의 죽음 이후 위험의 외주화 철폐와 책임자 처벌이라는 사회적 합의가 있었지만, 법은 만들어졌을 뿐 책임자는 처벌받지 않았다”고 비판했다.

노동당은 “중대재해처벌법이 제정됐지만, 김용균 사건 재판에서는 원청인 한국서부발전과 책임자들에게 무죄가 선고됐다”며 “결국 또 한 명의 하청노동자가 같은 장소에서 같은 방식으로 죽었다”고 지적했다.

이어 “오늘 사망한 노동자는 하루의 노동을 마치고 집으로 돌아갈 수도 있었다”며, “한국서부발전이 이번 사고를 어떻게 처리하는지 지켜볼 것이 아니라, 죽음의 원인을 규명하고 반드시 책임자를 처벌하는 투쟁을 전개할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

노동당은 “노동자의 피가 섞인 전기와 빵을 더 이상 용납할 수 없다”며, “생명이 존중받고 안전이 보장되는 사회를 만들기 위한 투쟁을 멈추지 않을 것”이라고 강조했다.

The Labor Party strongly criticized on June 2nd, at the Taean Power Plant of Korea Western Power, asking, "What has changed since Kim Yong-kyun?" in relation to another subcontracted worker being caught in a machine and killed.

At around 2:35 p.m. that day, a 51-year-old subcontracted worker died in an accident where his hand and head got caught in a machine while working on a shelf at the Taean Power Plant. The Labor Party emphasized that the accident occurred at the same power plant where the worker Kim Yong-kyun died in 2018, stating, "After Kim Yong-kyun's death, there was a social agreement to abolish the outsourcing of risks and punish those responsible, but although laws were made, those responsible were not punished."

The Labor Party pointed out, "Although the Act on the Punishment of Major Accidents was enacted, in the trial of the Kim Yong-kyun case, the main contractor, Korea Western Power, and those responsible were acquitted," and criticized, "Ultimately, another subcontracted worker died in the same place in the same way."

They further stated, "The worker who died today could have returned home after finishing a day's work," and said, "We will not just watch how Korea Western Power handles this accident, but will investigate the cause of death and carry out a struggle to identify and punish those responsible."

The Labor Party declared, "We can no longer tolerate electricity and bread mixed with the blood of workers," and emphasized, "We will not stop the struggle to create a society where life is respected and safety is guaranteed."
