전국농민회총연맹 전북도연맹과 전국여성농민회총연합 전북연합, 쌀생산자협회 전북본부는 6월 13일 공동 성명을 내고, “기후 변화와 정부 수입정책으로 농민들이 이중고를 겪고 있다”며 새 정부에 실질적인 농정 전환을 촉구했다.

이들 단체는 “밀과 보리는 잦은 강우와 낮은 기온으로 수확량이 크게 줄었고, 양파·마늘도 비슷한 상황에서 수입물량까지 겹쳐 가격 폭락을 겪고 있다”고 호소했다. 특히 TRQ(저율관세할당) 물량 수입과 민간 수입업자의 유입이 농산물 가격을 무너뜨리고 있다고 비판했다.

또한 “생산비는 오르고 있지만 정부는 소비자 물가 안정에만 몰두해 농민들의 어려움을 외면하고 있다”며 윤석열 정부의 농정을 ‘내란농정’으로 규정하고, 새로운 정부가 농민과의 소통을 바탕으로 ‘국가책임농정’을 실현하길 바란다고 강조했다.

농민단체들은 “이재명 대통령이 약속한 ‘국가전략산업으로서의 농업’이 공허한 구호에 그치지 않으려면, 농산물 가격 보장, 식량자급률 확대, 농업재해 보호법 제정, 농업 예산 확대 등 실질적 정책이 뒤따라야 한다”고 덧붙였다.

이들은 “사회 대개혁을 바란다면 그 출발은 농업과 농민을 살리는 데서 시작돼야 한다”며 정부의 책임 있는 자세를 촉구했다.

The National Federation of Farmers' Associations, Jeonbuk Provincial Federation, the National Women Farmers' Federation, Jeonbuk Federation, and the Rice Producers Association Jeonbuk Branch issued a joint statement on June 13, urging the new government to make substantial changes in agricultural policies, stating that farmers are facing double hardships due to climate change and government import policies.

The organizations stated, "Wheat and barley harvests have significantly decreased due to frequent rainfall and low temperatures, and onions and garlic are also experiencing price collapses as imported quantities overlap with similar situations." They criticized the import of TRQ (Tariff Rate Quota) quantities and the influx of private importers for undermining agricultural prices.

Furthermore, they accused the government of focusing solely on stabilizing consumer prices while production costs are rising, neglecting the difficulties faced by farmers. They labeled the agricultural policies of the Yoon Suk-yeol government as 'rebellious agricultural policies' and emphasized the need for the new government to realize 'national responsibility agricultural policies' based on communication with farmers.

The farmer organizations added, "If President Lee Jae-myung's promise of agriculture as a national strategic industry is not to remain an empty slogan, concrete policies such as ensuring agricultural product prices, expanding food self-sufficiency rates, enacting agricultural disaster protection laws, and increasing agricultural budgets must follow."

They concluded by stating, "If society desires genuine reform, it must begin with saving agriculture and farmers," urging the government to take a responsible stance.
