-빠른 스피드·돌파력 갖춘 특급 윙포워드… 공격력 강화 기대

전북현대모터스FC(단장 이도현)가 외국인 공격수 패트릭 츄마시(31)를 영입하며 공격력 보강에 나섰다. 구단은 20일 가나 국가대표 출신인 츄마시의 영입을 공식 발표했다.

176cm의 윙포워드인 츄마시는 2012년 라트비아 ‘스파르탁스 율말라’에서 프로 커리어를 시작한 후 카자흐스탄, 러시아, 스페인, 독일, 이스라엘 등 유럽 각국의 리그에서 활약한 베테랑 공격수다. 특히 2015년부터 2018년까지 몸담았던 ‘FC 아스타나’에서는 143경기에서 53골 32도움을 기록하며 UEFA 챔피언스리그와 유로파리그 무대에서도 존재감을 드러냈다.

이 같은 활약에 힘입어 가나 국가대표팀에 발탁된 그는 2018년 스페인 라리가 ‘알라베스’로 이적하며 한층 성장했다. 이후 분데스리가2 ‘하노버96’, 이스라엘 ‘마카비 네타냐’, 키프로스 ‘파포스 FC’ 등을 거쳐 직전 시즌에는 ‘베이타르 예루살렘’에서 임대 선수로 활약했다.

2024-25시즌에도 38경기에 출전해 7득점 2도움을 기록하는 등 여전히 뛰어난 활동량과 공격 본능을 과시했다. 전북현대 측은 “다양한 리그에서 쌓은 경험과 강력한 돌파 능력을 갖춘 츄마시가 팀의 공격에 속도와 날카로움을 더해줄 것으로 기대한다”고 전했다.

츄마시는 “전북현대의 우승에 기여하고 싶다. 최고의 선수들과 함께 최고의 결과를 만들어내고 싶다”고 입단 소감을 밝혔다. 그는 이미 팀 훈련에 합류했으며, 시즌 종료 직전까지 경기에 출전한 만큼 경기 감각에도 문제가 없어 즉시 출전이 가능하다.

한편, 츄마시의 K리그 등록명은 ‘츄마시’로 확정됐으며, 등번호는 21번을 달고 뛸 예정이다.

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC (Chairman Lee Do-hyun) has strengthened their attacking power by acquiring foreign striker Patrick Twumasi (31). The club officially announced the signing of Twumasi, who is a Ghanaian national team player, on the 20th.

Twumasi, a 176cm winger-forward, started his professional career in 2012 at Latvia's "Spartaks Jurmala" and has since played in leagues across various European countries such as Kazakhstan, Russia, Spain, Germany, and Israel. Particularly, during his time at "FC Astana" from 2015 to 2018, he recorded 53 goals and 32 assists in 143 matches, showcasing his presence in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League stages.

Thanks to his performances, he was called up to the Ghana national team and further developed after transferring to Spain's La Liga side "Alaves" in 2018. Subsequently, he played for Bundesliga 2's "Hannover 96", Israel's "Maccabi Netanya", Cyprus' "Pafos FC", and in the last season, he was on loan at "Beitar Jerusalem".

Even in the 2024-25 season, he participated in 38 matches, scoring 7 goals and providing 2 assists, demonstrating his outstanding activity level and attacking instinct. Jeonbuk Hyundai stated, "We expect Twumasi, who possesses a variety of experiences from different leagues and strong breakthrough ability, to add speed and sharpness to the team's attack."

Twumasi expressed his thoughts on joining the team, saying, "I want to contribute to Jeonbuk Hyundai's success. I want to achieve the best results with the best players." He has already joined the team's training and is immediately available for matches as he has been playing until the end of the season, maintaining his match fitness.

Meanwhile, Twumasi's K League registration name has been confirmed as 'Twumasi', and he is set to wear the number 21 jersey.
