정읍시는 19일 정읍체육관에서 ‘2025 정읍시 장애인 생활체육대회’를 성황리에 개최했다고 밝혔다. 이번 대회는 장애인의 재활과 자립 의지를 높이고, 생활체육을 통해 사회적 인식 개선을 도모하기 위해 마련됐다.

정읍시장애인체육회 주관으로 열린 이번 행사에는 좌식배구, 파크골프, 론볼 등 종목 단체 선수와 자애원, 울림주간보호센터 등 복지시설 관계자 등 400여 명이 참여했다. 참가자들은 갈고닦은 기량을 뽐내며 소통과 화합의 시간을 가졌다.

개회식에는 아랑고고장구단의 식전공연을 시작으로 이학수 정읍시장, 박일 시의회 의장, 임승식 도의원이 참석해 선수들을 격려했다.

이학수 시장은 “이번 대회가 장애 유무를 넘어 소통과 공감의 장이 되길 바란다”며 “장애인과 비장애인이 함께 행복한 정읍을 만들기 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

정읍시는 앞으로도 생활체육 활성화를 통해 장애인 복지 증진과 포용적 도시 실현에 힘쓸 계획이다.

Jeongeup City announced that the '2025 Jeongeup City Disability Sports Festival' was successfully held at the Jeongeup Gymnasium on the 19th. This event was organized to enhance the rehabilitation and independence of people with disabilities, as well as to promote social awareness improvement through recreational sports.

Hosted by the Jeongeup Disability Sports Association, the event saw participation from over 400 individuals, including group athletes in sports such as sitting volleyball, park golf, and lawn bowling, as well as officials from welfare facilities like nursing homes and the Ulrim Day Care Center. Participants showcased their honed skills and enjoyed a time of communication and harmony.

The opening ceremony featured a pre-performance by the Arang Gogojanggu Drum Team, followed by speeches from Mayor Lee Hak-soo, Park Il, the Chairman of the City Council, and Im Seung-sik, a provincial councilor, who cheered on the athletes.

Mayor Lee Hak-soo expressed his hope that "this event will serve as a platform for communication and empathy beyond disabilities" and stated, "We will do our best to create a happy Jeongeup where people with and without disabilities can coexist."

Jeongeup City plans to continue its efforts in promoting disability welfare and building an inclusive city by actively engaging in recreational sports in the future.
