전북특별자치도는 14일 오후 전주 한옥마을 문화공간 하얀양옥집에서 제13회 ‘일본군 위안부 피해자 기림의 날’ 추모행사를 열었다. 행사에는 도내 여성단체와 시민사회단체, 광복회 전북지회, 전북겨레하나 등 60여 명이 참석해 피해자들의 고통과 용기를 기렸다.

기림의 날은 1991년 고(故) 김학순 할머니가 일본군 위안부 피해 사실을 처음 공개 증언한 8월 14일을 기념해 2018년 국가기념일로 지정됐다.

이번 추모행사는 (사)전북여성단체연합 주관으로 8월 12일부터 31일까지 이어진다. ‘정의·여성·평화’를 주제로 전북지역 여성작가 6인의 회화, 사진, 조형물, 영상 작품과 정의기억연대 기록물이 전시되며, 생존자 증언 영상도 상영된다. 매주 수요일에는 동전지갑·고체 향수 만들기 등 무료 체험 프로그램이 운영된다.

김정 전북도 여성가족과장은 “이번 행사가 피해자들의 용기와 연대를 기억하고, 그 가치를 현재와 미래로 이어가는 계기가 되길 바란다”고 말했다.

On the afternoon of the 14th, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province held the 13th annual memorial event for the victims of Japanese military comfort women at the cultural space Hanok House in Jeonju Hanok Village. About 60 people from women's organizations, civic groups, the Jeonbuk branch of the Independence Movement Association, and Jeonbuk Kyerehana attended the event to commemorate the suffering and courage of the victims.

The Memorial Day was designated as a national commemoration day in 2018 to honor August 14, the day when the late Kim Hak-soon first publicly testified about the Japanese military comfort women victims in 1991.

This memorial event, organized by the Jeonbuk Women's Organizations Federation, will continue from August 12 to 31. Under the theme of 'Justice, Women, Peace,' artworks including paintings, photographs, sculptures, videos by six female artists from Jeonbuk, as well as archival materials from the Justice Memory Solidarity, will be exhibited. Survivors' testimonial videos will also be screened. Free experiential programs such as making coin purses and solid perfumes will be offered every Wednesday.

Kim Jung, the head of the Women and Family Department of Jeonbuk Province, expressed hope that "this event will serve as an opportunity to remember the courage and solidarity of the victims and to pass on their values to the present and the future."
