전북대학교 주거환경학과(학과장 장미선)가 올해도 지역사회 취약 노인가구 2곳과 경로당 1곳을 대상으로 공간개선 실증사업을 추진하며 큰 호응을 얻고 있다.

이 사업은 학과 교수와 학생들이 직접 실측, 조사, 설계, 시공 지원까지 전 과정을 수행하는 프로젝트로, 학생들의 전공 역량을 현장에 적용하고 재능기부를 실천하는 사회공헌형 교육 사례로 주목받고 있다.

올해 개선 대상에는 노후화와 위생·안전 문제를 안고 있던 '삼우경로당'과 노인가구 2곳이 포함됐다. 삼우경로당은 여름방학 중 공사가 마무리돼 입주식을 앞두고 있으며, 나머지 두 곳은 각각 시공 준비 및 2학기 중 본격 추진을 앞두고 있다.

이번 사업에는 전주시청, 전주시주거복지센터, 한국주거복지협동조합, 전북특별자치도 자원봉사센터 등이 함께 참여해 민·관·학 협력 모델을 실현하고 있다. 학과 동아리 ‘이음’은 청년공익활동지원사업에 선정돼 활동을 더욱 확장하고 있다.

장지윤 학생(3학년)은 “더운 날씨에도 보람 있게 참여했다”며 소감을 전했고, 장미선 학과장은 “지역사회에 지속적으로 공헌하는 협력 모델로 발전시키겠다”고 밝혔다.

The Department of Housing and Environment at Jeonbuk University, led by department head Jang Mi-seon, is once again garnering significant attention as they carry out a space improvement demonstration project targeting two vulnerable elderly households in the local community and one senior center.

This project involves professors and students from the department directly conducting measurements, surveys, designs, and providing construction support throughout the entire process. It is being recognized as a case of social contribution education where students apply their expertise in the field and practice volunteering their talents.

This year, the targets for improvement include 'Samwoo Senior Center,' which was facing issues related to aging, hygiene, and safety, and two elderly households. The construction at Samwoo Senior Center is set to be completed during the summer vacation, while the other two locations are preparing for construction and are scheduled for full implementation during the second semester.

Various organizations such as Jeonju City Hall, Jeonju City Housing Welfare Center, the Korea Housing Welfare Cooperative, and Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Volunteer Center are participating in this project, realizing a collaborative model involving the public sector, private sector, and academia. The department club 'Ieum' has been selected for the Youth Public Service Activity Support Program and is expanding its activities.

Student Jang Ji-yoon (3rd year) expressed satisfaction, saying, "I participated meaningfully even in the hot weather," while Department Head Jang Mi-seon stated, "We will continue to develop the collaborative model that contributes continuously to the local community."
