전주시는 24일 전주종합경기장 부지에서 우범기 전주시장과 김관영 전북특별자치도지사, 정준호 롯데쇼핑 대표, 지역 주요 기관장, 일반시민 등 1000여 명이 참석한 가운데 전주컨벤션센터 건립공사의 기공식을 가졌다.

이번 기공식은 시가 지난 수년간 준비해 온 대규모 마이스 복합단지 조성사업의 공식 출범을 알리는 뜻깊은 행사로, △식전공연 △국민의례 △내빈 소개 △홍보영상 상영 △캘리그라피 퍼포먼스 △기공 버튼 터치 퍼포먼스 △축하 공연 등의 순으로 진행됐다.

특히 ‘새롭게 펼쳐질 전주이야기’를 주제로 한 캘리그라피 퍼포먼스와 ‘전주, 미래 광역도시&글로벌 마이스 도시로 도약합니다’를 주제로 한 기공식 퍼포먼스는 행사장의 열기를 고조시켰다.

전주컨벤션센터는 전주종합경기장 부지 약 8만 3000㎡에 총사업비 약 3000억 원이 투입돼 1만㎡ 전시장과 2000명 이상 수용 가능한 대회의실, 22개 중소회의실 및 회의 공간, 1만㎡ 규모의 다목적 광장 등을 갖춘 지하 1층~지상 4층 규모로 건립될 예정이다.

시는 오는 2028년 말 센터가 완공되면 국제회의와 전시, 세미나 등 대형 마이스 행사를 유치해 전주를 국내외 비즈니스와 관광의 거점으로 만든다는 구상이다.

On the 24th, in the Jeonju Comprehensive Sports Stadium site, Jeonju Mayor Woo Byung-gi, North Jeolla Province Governor Kim Kwan-young, Lotte Shopping CEO Jung Joon-ho, key local officials, and over 1,000 citizens attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Jeonju Convention Center.

This groundbreaking ceremony marked the official start of a large-scale MySpace complex development project that the city has been preparing for over the past few years. The event proceeded with a ceremonial performance, national anthem, introduction of guests, promotional video screening, calligraphy performance, groundbreaking button touch performance, and congratulatory performances.

In particular, the calligraphy performance themed "A New Chapter of Jeonju" and the groundbreaking ceremony performance themed "Jeonju, Leaping into the Future as a Metropolitan City and Global MySpace City" heightened the atmosphere at the event.

The Jeonju Convention Center, with a total project cost of approximately 300 billion won invested in an area of about 83,000 square meters at the Jeonju Comprehensive Sports Stadium site, will be constructed as a four-story building from basement level one to ground level, featuring a 10,000 square meter exhibition hall, a conference hall accommodating over 2,000 people, 22 small and medium-sized meeting rooms, and a 10,000 square meter multipurpose square.

The city plans that by the end of 2028, once the center is completed, it will attract international conferences, exhibitions, seminars, and other large-scale MySpace events to establish Jeonju as a hub for domestic and international business and tourism.
