동초제 유파를 잇는 전승자 가운데 한 명인 그는 정확한 가사 전달과 허공을 째는 듯한 힘찬 성음으로 꾸준히 높은 평가를 받아온 소리꾼이다.
이번 발표회는 1부 ‘놀보 심술~돈타령’, 2부 ‘둘째 박을 탐~개과천선’으로 구성돼 흥보가의 짜임새와 흐름을 온전히 느낄 수 있도록 꾸며진다.
차복순이 잇는 동초제 흥보가는 김연수–오정숙–이일주–차복순으로 이어지는 계보를 지닌다. 동초 김연수(1907~1974) 명창이 여러 스승의 소리를 다듬어 확립한 소리제로, 논리적 구성과 정확한 발음, 사실적 표현을 중시하는 것이 특징이다.
김연수는 장구 없이 완소리로 판소리를 풀어내며 자신만의 확실한 창법을 다졌고, 흥보가 중에서도 ‘놀보 바디’를 온전히 정립한 명창으로 평가된다. 특히 음의 장식과 시김새 변화가 정교해 듣는 이들이 ‘고루하다’고 느끼면서도 동시에 ‘흥미롭다’고 입을 모으는 독특한 매력을 지닌 바디다.
차복순 명창은 남원여고와 전북대 한국음악학과를 졸업한 뒤 고려대 대학원에서 문학석사를, 전북대 대학원에서 박사과정을 수료했다. 2000년 제4회 임방울국악제 판소리 명창부에서 대통령상을 수상하며 스물다섯 살 최연소 대상 수상자로 주목받았다. 이후 전주세계소리축제, 국립국악원, 우진문화재단 판소리 다섯바탕 등 굵직한 무대에 오르며 활발한 활동을 이어왔다.
현재 그는 전북도립국악원 창극단 지도위원으로 활동하며 전북무형유산 제2호 이수자, 사단법인 동초제판소리보존회 이사로 전승과 교육에도 힘을 쏟고 있다.
공연의 북장단은 제12회 팔마전국고수대회 대명고수부 대통령상 수상자 이상호 전북도립국악원 교육학예실 고법반 교수가 맡아 완창 무대의 호흡을 함께한다.
공연은 16일 오후 2시 전북특별자치도립국악원 3층 권삼득홀에서 열린다.
Singer Cha Bok-soon, who fills the stage with today's sensibility while maintaining the depth of tradition, will hold a completion ceremony for the "Heungbo-ga" of Dongchoje.
As one of the successors following the tradition of Dongchoje, he is a singer who has consistently received high praise for his precise delivery of lyrics and powerful vocalizations that seem to fill the empty space.
This completion ceremony is organized into two parts: Part 1 "Nolbo's Trickery ~ Money Chant" and Part 2 "The Second Pak's Temptation ~ Turning Over a New Leaf," designed to fully experience the intricacy and flow of Heungbo-ga.
The lineage of Dongchoje Heungbo-ga, carried on by Cha Bok-soon, follows Kim Yeon-soo - Oh Jeong-sook - Lee Il-joo - Cha Bok-soon. Dongcho Kim Yeon-soo (1907-1974), a renowned singer, established a singing style by refining the voices of several masters, emphasizing logical structure, accurate pronunciation, and realistic expression.
Kim Yeon-soo developed his own distinct singing style by delivering pansori with complete vocalization without the use of a drum, and he was particularly praised as a master who fully established the "Nolbo Body" within Heungbo-ga. His intricate ornamentation of tones and changes in poetic rhythm create a unique charm that captivates listeners, making them feel both "satisfied" and "intrigued."
Singer Cha Bok-soon graduated from Namwon Girls' High School and the Department of Korean Music at Chonbuk National University, completed a master's degree at Korea University, and finished his doctoral program at Chonbuk National University. In 2000, he won the Presidential Award in the Pansori Singing Division at the 4th Imbangul National Traditional Music Festival, becoming the youngest recipient of the award at the age of twenty-five. Since then, he has been actively engaged in various major stages such as the Jeonju World Sound Festival, the National Gugak Center, and the Ujin Cultural Foundation's Pansori Dasotbang.
Currently, he is serving as a director of the Changgeukdan at Jeonbuk Provincial Gugakwon, pouring his efforts into passing down and educating the intangible cultural heritage of Jeonbuk as the 2nd inheritor and as a director of the Dongchoje Pansori Preservation Society.
The percussion ensemble for the performance will be led by Professor Lee Sang-ho, a recipient of the Presidential Award in the Master Division at the 12th Palma National High-Level Master Competition and a professor in the Department of Education at the Jeonbuk Provincial Gugakwon.
The performance will take place at 2 p.m. on the 16th at the 3rd floor Kwon Sam-deuk Hall of the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Provincial Gugakwon.
