완주군이 동학농민혁명의 역사적 위상을 재조명하고 지역 곳곳에 분포한 전적지의 학술적 가치를 정리한 연구 성과를 공개했다.

완주군은 23일 우석대학교 W-SKY23에서 ‘완주군 동학농민혁명 학술연구 용역 최종보고회’를 열고 연구 결과와 향후 활용 방안을 논의했다고 밝혔다. 보고회에는 유희태 완주군수를 비롯해 도·군의원, 학계 전문가, 동학농민혁명기념재단 관계자 등 50여 명이 참석했다.

이번 연구는 완주군이 9월부터 12월까지 동학농민혁명기념재단에 연구를 위탁해 추진했으며, 완주군 전역에 흩어진 동학농민혁명 관련 유적을 전수 조사했다. 특히 동학농민혁명 2차 봉기터로 알려진 삼례 역참 일대에 대한 학술적 규명을 핵심 과제로 수행했다.

최종보고회에서는 완주 지역 동학농민혁명의 전개 과정과 주요 전적지 현황, 삼례 2차 봉기터 위치 비정 연구 결과가 발표됐고, 문화유산 보존과 활용 방안에 대한 제언도 함께 제시됐다.

유희태 군수는 “완주가 동학농민혁명 역사에서 차지하는 위상과 역할을 체계적으로 정리한 성과”라며 “연구 결과를 바탕으로 사적 지정 검토와 유적 정비, 교육·전시·기념사업 등으로 확장해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

완주군은 연구 성과를 토대로 관련 유적의 체계적 관리·보존을 추진하고, 지역 정체성 강화와 역사문화 자원 활용 방안도 지속적으로 모색할 계획이다.

Wanju County has announced the research results that reevaluate the historical significance of the Donghak Peasant Revolution and organize the academic value of the historical sites scattered throughout the region.

According to Wanju County, on the 23rd, they held the 'Wanju County Donghak Peasant Revolution Academic Research Service Final Report Meeting' at W-SKY23, Uiseong University, to discuss the research findings and future utilization plans. The meeting was attended by around 50 people, including Yu Hee-tae, the head of Wanju County, provincial and county council members, academic experts, and officials from the Donghak Peasant Revolution Memorial Foundation.

This research, commissioned by Wanju County to the Donghak Peasant Revolution Memorial Foundation from September to December, conducted a comprehensive survey of the Donghak Peasant Revolution-related relics scattered throughout Wanju County. In particular, it focused on academically clarifying the location of the Samnye Yeokcham area known as the site of the second Donghak Peasant Revolution.

During the final report meeting, the research results on the development process of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in Wanju area, the current status of major historical sites, and the non-definitive study results on the location of the Samnye Yeokcham as the site of the second Donghak Peasant Revolution were presented. Suggestions for the preservation and utilization of cultural heritage were also proposed.

Yu Hee-tae, the head of the county, stated, "The systematic organization of Wanju's position and role in the history of the Donghak Peasant Revolution is an achievement," and expressed, "Based on the research results, we will expand into cultural heritage designation review, relic maintenance, education, exhibition, and commemorative projects."

Wanju County plans to promote systematic management and preservation of related relics based on the research results, and will continue to explore ways to strengthen regional identity and utilize historical and cultural resources.
