파사무용단이 연말을 맞아 지역의 역사와 상상력을 결합한 신작 무용으로 관객을 만난다. 파사무용단의 신작 ‘개남(開南)’은 오는 31일 오후 6시 전북대학교 삼성문화회관 영산홀에서 공연된다.

‘개남’은 천하공물설과 대동계의 지도자 정여립을 조명했던 이전 작품에 이어, 우리 지역의 역사적 인물을 재해석하는 두 번째 시도다. 이번 무대는 동학농민혁명이라는 거대한 소용돌이 속에서 시대의 눈이 되어 변혁의 물결을 키워냈던 혁명가 김개남에 대한 예술적 접근이자 헌사다.

최근 김개남의 생애와 사상, 역사적 역할에 대한 연구와 재평가가 이어지며 그는 변혁 운동의 선구자로 새롭게 자리매김하고 있으며, 작품은 이러한 흐름을 무용 언어로 풀어낸다.

공연은 역사적 서사를 바탕으로 하되, 난해한 해석보다는 이미지와 움직임 중심의 구성에 방점을 찍었다. 김개남의 삶과 시대 정신을 상징적 장면으로 풀어내며, 관객이 직관적으로 공감할 수 있는 무대를 지향한다.

이로 인해 가족 단위 관람객도 함께 즐길 수 있는 무용 공연으로 기획된 점이 특징이다. 연말 마지막 날, 세대와 연령을 아우르는 문화 향유의 장이 될 것으로 기대를 모은다.

‘개남’은 전북특별자치도문화관광재단 무대작품지원사업에 선정된 작품으로, 지역 예술단체의 창작 역량과 문제의식을 무대에서 확인할 수 있는 의미 있는 결과물이다. 파사무용단은 이번 공연을 통해 지역 역사에 대한 예술적 해석을 확장하는 한편, 전북 무용 예술의 저변 확대와 대중과의 소통을 동시에 모색한다는 계획이다.

To celebrate the end of the year, the Pasa Dance Company will meet the audience with a new dance piece that combines the history and imagination of the region. The company's new work, "Gaenam (開南)," will be performed on December 31 at 6 p.m. at the Yeongsan Hall of Samsung Cultural Center at Jeonbuk University.

"Gaenam" is the second attempt by the Pasa Dance Company to reinterpret historical figures of our region, following their previous work that shed light on the Cheonhagongmulsul and the leader of the Taedonggye, Jeong Ye-rip. This time, the stage is an artistic approach and tribute to Kim Gaenam, a revolutionary who became the eyes of the era in the swirling vortex of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, fostering waves of transformation.

Recent research and reevaluation of Kim Gaenam's life, thoughts, and historical role have solidified his position as a pioneer of the revolutionary movement, and the work expresses this trend through the language of dance.

The performance is based on historical narratives but focuses on a composition centered around images and movements rather than complex interpretations. It unfolds Kim Gaenam's life and the spirit of the times through symbolic scenes, aiming for a stage that the audience can intuitively empathize with.

As a result, the performance is designed as a dance show that families can enjoy together. It is expected to be a cultural enjoyment venue that encompasses generations and ages on the last day of the year.

"Gaenam" was selected as a stage work supported by the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Cultural Tourism Foundation, and it is a significant outcome where the creative capacity and awareness of regional arts organizations can be confirmed on stage. Through this performance, the Pasa Dance Company plans to expand the artistic interpretation of regional history and seek to broaden the scope of dance arts in Jeonbuk while simultaneously exploring communication with the public.
