무주반딧불축제가 세계축제협회 아시아지부에서 선정하는 2025 아시아 친환경 축제로 이름을 올렸다. 이는 대한민국 최초로 ESG 개념을 도입·실천하며 생태환경축제로서 정체성을 확립한 점을 높이 평가받은 결과다.

특히 제28회 축제에서는 △다회용기 사용 △태양열 발전 △재활용 기반 시설 조성 △친환경 종이 활용 홍보물 제작 등 지속 가능한 축제 모델을 제시해 호평을 받았다.

20일 경주 HICO에서 열린 2025 세계축제 정상회의에서 수상한 황인홍 무주군수는 “무주반딧불축제가 대한민국 대표 생태환경축제로 자리 잡을 수 있도록 내실을 다지겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 제29회 무주반딧불축제는 오는 9월 6일부터 14일까지 무주군 일원에서 개최되며, 반딧불이 신비탐사 등 다채로운 프로그램이 마련될 예정이다. 무주군과 축제위원회는 경주와 부산에서 열리는 박람회에서 홍보 활동을 펼칠 계획이다.

The Muju Firefly Festival has been named as the 2025 Asia Eco-Friendly Festival selected by the Asia branch of the World Festival Association. This recognition comes as a result of being highly evaluated for establishing its identity as an ecological environment festival by introducing and practicing the ESG concept for the first time in South Korea.

In particular, at the 28th festival, it received praise for presenting a sustainable festival model, including the use of multi-use containers, solar power generation, establishing recycling facilities, and promoting the use of eco-friendly paper materials.

Hwang In-hong, the mayor of Muju, who received the award at the 2025 World Festival Summit held at HICO in Gyeongju on the 20th, stated, "I will solidify the foundation so that the Muju Firefly Festival can establish itself as a representative ecological environment festival in South Korea."

Meanwhile, the 29th Muju Firefly Festival will be held in various locations in Muju County from September 6th to 14th, featuring diverse programs such as firefly exploration. The Muju County and the festival committee plan to carry out promotional activities at expos in Gyeongju and Busan.
