순창군 (재)발효미생물산업진흥원이 축사 악취를 줄이는 데 효과적인 미생물 소재를 발굴하고 그 효능을 입증했다고 28일 밝혔다.

진흥원은 총 16종의 악취 저감 미생물을 발굴했으며, 이 중 ‘SRCM 116907’ 균주는 암모니아를 실험실 수준에서 93.56%까지 줄이는 높은 저감 효과를 보였다. 실제 양돈 농가에 적용한 결과, 암모니아 83%, 황화수소 55%, 메틸메르캅탄 95%가 감소해 복합악취가 전체적으로 33% 줄어드는 성과를 거뒀다.

특히 해당 균주는 커피박과 함께 발효 시 더욱 높은 악취 저감 효과를 나타냈으며, 관련 연구는 2024년 국내 학술지에 발표돼 학계에서도 주목을 받았다.

순창군과 진흥원은 이번 성과를 바탕으로 ‘2025년 맞춤형 축사환경 개선 미생물 소재 발굴사업’을 추진한다. 이 사업은 악취 저감 미생물 개발은 물론 퇴비 부숙화, 실증 연구, 수질 분석, 유해미생물 분석 등 축산 농가를 위한 맞춤형 지원을 포함한다.

사업 참여를 원하는 농가는 발효미생물산업진흥원 홈페이지(www.mifi.re.kr)에서 신청할 수 있다.

최영일 순창군수는 “이번 미생물은 축산 농가뿐 아니라 지역 주민의 생활 환경에도 큰 도움이 될 것”이라며 “앞으로도 기술 지원을 통해 군민 삶의 질 향상에 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.

The (re) Fermentation Microbial Industry Promotion Institute in Sunchang County announced on the 28th that it has discovered effective microbial materials for reducing livestock manure odor and proven their efficacy.

The institute has identified a total of 16 odor-reducing microbes, among which the strain 'SRCM 116907' showed a high reduction effect, reducing ammonia by up to 93.56% at the laboratory level. When applied in actual pig farms, it resulted in a 83% reduction in ammonia, 55% reduction in hydrogen sulfide, and 95% reduction in methyl mercaptan, leading to an overall 33% decrease in compound odors.

In particular, this strain showed even greater odor reduction effects when fermented with coffee husks, and related research is set to be published in a domestic academic journal in 2024, attracting attention from the academic community.

Based on this achievement, Sunchang County and the institute will pursue the '2025 Customized Livestock Manure Environment Improvement Microbial Material Discovery Project.' This project includes tailored support for livestock farms, such as the development of odor-reducing microbes, compost maturation, empirical research, water quality analysis, and harmful microbial analysis.
