정읍시장애인종합복지관은 어버이날인 지난 8일, 장애인 어르신들을 위한 원예치유 수업과 자살예방 교육을 진행하며 따뜻한 시간을 마련했다.

이번 프로그램은 복지관의 청춘대학 사업의 일환으로, 60세 이상 신체 및 지적 장애인을 대상으로 한 통합 복지 교육 프로그램이다. 이날 수업은 ‘감사의 화분’을 주제로 카네이션을 심는 원예활동과 함께 노년기 자살예방 교육이 병행돼 참여자들에게 정서적 안정과 감동을 선사했다.

복지관 관계자는 “어버이날을 맞아 정서적 지지와 공동체 분위기를 조성하고자 특별 수업을 기획했다”며 “앞으로도 인지, 심리, 신체 건강을 아우르는 프로그램을 통해 고령 장애인의 삶의 질 향상에 힘쓰겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편 청춘대학은 뇌 건강, 마음 건강, 몸 건강을 주제로 한 다양한 강좌와 함께 지역사회 연계 활동, 졸업여행 등을 통해 배움과 소통의 기회를 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

On May 8th, which was Parents' Day, Jeongeup Disability Comprehensive Welfare Center organized a warm time for elderly people with disabilities by conducting horticultural therapy classes and suicide prevention education.

This program is part of the center's Youth University project, a comprehensive welfare education program for individuals aged 60 and above with physical and intellectual disabilities. The classes on that day included planting carnations under the theme of 'Gratitude Flowerpot' and simultaneous education on preventing suicide in old age, providing participants with emotional stability and inspiration.

An official from the welfare center stated, "In celebration of Parents' Day, we planned a special class to provide emotional support and foster a sense of community" and expressed, "In the future, we will continue to strive for improving the quality of life for elderly people with disabilities through programs that encompass cognitive, psychological, and physical health."

Meanwhile, the Youth University plans to expand learning and communication opportunities through various courses on brain health, mental health, physical health, as well as community engagement activities and graduation trips.
