군산시 성산면에 위치한 창오초등학교(교장 김용훈)가 자연과 함께하는 생태 감성 교육으로 눈길을 끌고 있다.

군산 창오초등학교는 전교생 14명의 작은 학교지만, ‘자연과 소통하며 하나 되는 우리학교’라는 교육 철학 아래 전 학년이 함께하는 텃밭 가꾸기 프로그램을 운영 중이다.

지난 6월 9일, 학생들은 자신들이 직접 기른 오이와 앵두를 수확하며 자연의 소중함과 협력의 가치를 체험했다.

김용훈 교장은 “아이들이 흙을 만지고 열매를 수확하는 과정은 삶의 태도와 가치를 배우는 소중한 경험”이라며, “앞으로도 생태 중심 교육을 지속해나갈 것”이라고 전했다.

창오초는 계절별 작물 재배를 통해 자연의 변화를 직접 체험하고, 기후 위기에 대한 감수성을 키우는 교육을 강화할 계획이다. 작은 학교의 큰 실천이 지역 교육의 새로운 모델로 주목받고 있다.

Chang'o Elementary School in Seongsan-myeon, Gunsan City, led by Principal Kim Yong-hoon, is attracting attention with its eco-friendly education that emphasizes harmony with nature.

Although Chang'o Elementary School has only 14 students, under the educational philosophy of "Our school becoming one with nature through communication," the school operates a gardening program where all grades participate together.

On June 9th, students harvested cucumbers and jujubes they had grown themselves, experiencing the value of nature's preciousness and cooperation.

Principal Kim Yong-hoon stated, "The process of children touching the soil and harvesting fruits is a valuable experience for learning attitudes and values in life," adding, "We will continue to pursue eco-centered education in the future."

Chang'o Elementary School plans to enhance education by directly experiencing the changes in nature through seasonal crop cultivation and raising sensitivity to climate crises. The significant practices of the small school are gaining attention as a new model for local education.
