정읍시가 은선리·도계리 고분군에 대한 본격적인 발굴조사에 나서며 백제 마한문화권 복원과 지역 역사 자산 발굴에 속도를 내고 있다.

‘정읍 은선리·도계리 고분군’은 영원면 일대 약 2km 구역에 분포한 270여 기의 고분 중 56기의 횡혈식 석실분이 밀집된 지역으로, 2018년 국가지정 사적으로 지정됐다. 2022년부터는 국가유산청의 보수정비사업에 따라 시굴·발굴이 단계적으로 진행되고 있다.

지금까지 백제 고분 20기가 새롭게 확인됐으며, 특히 2024년 조사에서는 금제구슬과 금제반지 등 고급 장신구가 출토돼 학계의 주목을 받았다. 이는 백제 웅진기 지방 통치체계와 문화적 특성을 밝히는 데 중요한 유물로 평가된다.

정읍시는 출토 유물을 오는 6월 26일부터 국립전주박물관 특별전 ‘나고 드는 땅, 만경과 동진’을 통해 일반에 공개할 예정이다.

시는 전주대 박물관과 함께 2026년까지 정밀조사를 마치고, 2027년 종합정비계획을 수립해 2030년까지 복원 사업을 추진할 계획이다. 이학수 시장은 “정읍 고대사의 위상을 높이고, 역사문화도시로 도약하는 계기를 마련하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Jeongeup City is actively conducting excavations on the Eunseon-ri and Dogye-ri ancient tombs, accelerating the restoration of the Baekje Mahan cultural region and the exploration of local historical assets.

The "Jeongeup Eunseon-ri and Dogye-ri ancient tombs" are an area spanning approximately 2km in Yeongwon-myeon, with around 270 tombs, among which 56 horizontal stone chamber tombs are densely concentrated. Designated as a national historic site in 2018, from 2022, excavation and research are being carried out in stages under the restoration project of the Cultural Heritage Administration.

So far, 20 new Baekje tombs have been confirmed, and particularly in the 2024 survey, high-end jewelry such as gold beads and gold rings were unearthed, drawing attention from the academic community. These artifacts are evaluated as important items for revealing the governance system and cultural characteristics of the Baekje Woongjin period.

Jeongeup City plans to publicly showcase the excavated artifacts through a special exhibition at the National Jeonju Museum titled "The Rising Land, Mangyeong and Dongjin," starting from June 26.

The city, in collaboration with Jeonju University Museum, aims to complete detailed research by 2026 and establish a comprehensive restoration plan by 2027 to drive restoration projects until 2030. Mayor Lee Hak-soo stated, "We will enhance the status of Jeongeup's ancient history and create an opportunity to leap into a historical and cultural city."
