우석대학교(총장 박노준)는 오는 27일부터 이틀간 전주캠퍼스 체육관에서 ‘제14회 한중일 시각장애인 테니스대회’를 개최한다고 21일 밝혔다.

이번 대회는 (사)한국시각장애인테니스연맹이 주최하고, 우석대 장애학생지원센터와 특수교육과가 주관한다. 우석대를 비롯해 전북맹아학교, 대한안마사협회 전북지부, 충주성모학교, 일본·싱가포르·캐나다 등 국내외 선수와 관계자, 자원봉사자 등 300여 명이 참가할 예정이다.

경기는 시력 등급에 따라 B1~B4(남녀 단식)로 구분되며, 예선 리그전, 준결승, 결승 순으로 진행된다. 시각장애인 테니스는 소리가 나는 특수 공을 사용하는 경기로, 현재 20여 개국에서 보급돼 있다.

정진자 특수교육과 교수는 “국제 교류와 선수들의 역량 강화를 위해 성공적인 대회를 만들겠다”고 전했다.

한편, 개회식은 27일 오전 10시 전주캠퍼스 체육관에서 열리며, 이날 장애학생 및 외국인 유학생 대상 장학금 전달식도 함께 진행될 예정이다.

Ulsan University (President Park No-jun) announced on the 21st that they will be hosting the 14th Korea-China-Japan Visually Impaired Tennis Tournament at the Jeonju campus gymnasium for two days starting on the 27th.

This tournament is organized by the Korea Visually Impaired Tennis Association, with support from the Ulsan University Disability Student Support Center and the Special Education Department. Around 300 participants, including athletes and officials from Ulsan University, Jeonbuk Maeng-ah School, the Jeonbuk branch of the Korean Blind Masseurs Association, Chungju Seongmo School, as well as participants from Japan, Singapore, Canada, and other countries, are expected to participate.

The matches will be divided into B1 to B4 categories (men's and women's singles) based on visual impairment levels, and will progress through qualifying rounds, semi-finals, and finals. Visually impaired tennis is a game that uses special balls that make sounds and is currently being promoted in over 20 countries.

Professor Jung Jin-ja from the Special Education Department stated, "We will strive to make this tournament successful for international exchange and to enhance the skills of the players."

The opening ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on the 27th at the Jeonju campus gymnasium, where a scholarship award ceremony for disabled students and foreign exchange students will also be held on the same day.
