-전통문양을 현대적인 시각으로 재해석

“오래된 문양에는 삶의 바람이 깃들어 있습니다. 장수와 복, 강녕과 부귀, 백년해로에 이르기까지, 수백 년 전 조상들의 기원은 오늘을 살아가는 우리에게도 여전히 유효합니다.”

전북특별자치도 무형유산 색지장 이수자인 허석희 작가의 개인전 ‘새김-무늬’가 1일부터 6일까지 한국전통문화전당 3층 기획전시실에서 열린다.

작가는 이번 전시에서 △문자도 △보배무늬 △봉황 △학 △길상무늬 등 전통문양을 현대적인 시각으로 재해석해 나비와 연꽃, 복숭아 등 전통 길상 문양을 현대적인 감각으로 다시 바라본다.

작가는 “한 자루 칼로 오리고 겹치고 구성해 나가는 과정은, 단지 옛것을 복원하는 일이 아니라 지금의 시선으로 과거와 대화하고, 미래의 감각을 불러오는 창작의 여정이다”며 “한지라는 재료의 물성과 시간의 깊이를 바탕으로, 조형성과 색감, 여백의 미를 새롭게 조율하며‘전통’이라는 무늬에 ‘오늘’이라는 의미를 새겼다”고 전했다.

허석희 작가는 제28회 전국한지공예대전에서 대상을 수상했다.

-Reinterpreting traditional patterns with a modern perspective

"Old patterns carry the winds of life. From longevity and blessings, prosperity and wealth, to reaching a hundred years, the wishes of our ancestors from hundreds of years ago still hold relevance for us living in the present day."

The solo exhibition 'Saegim-Munui' by Heo Seok-hee, a designated holder of intangible cultural heritage in Jeollabuk-do, will be held from the 1st to the 6th at the Korea Traditional Culture Center on the 3rd floor of the exhibition hall.

In this exhibition, the artist reinterprets traditional patterns such as characters, bobae patterns, phoenixes, cranes, and gilsang patterns in a modern perspective, looking at traditional gilsang patterns like butterflies, lotus flowers, and peaches through a contemporary sensibility.

The artist stated, "The process of cutting, overlapping, and composing with a single knife is not merely about restoring the old, but a creative journey of engaging with the past and invoking a sense of the future through the lens of the present." He further conveyed, "Based on the material properties of hanji and the depth of time, I have harmonized the form, color, and the beauty of space, engraving the meaning of 'today' onto the traditional pattern of 'munui'."

Artist Heo Seok-hee won the grand prize at the 28th National Hanji Craft Competition.
