-예술과 일상에서 B급으로 여겨지는 존재들 조명

향유와 공유의 열린 미술관을 지향하는 전북도립미술관(관장 이애선, 이하 ‘도립미술관’)은 1일부터 본관 1-5전시실에서 특별전 《진격하는 B급들》을 개최한다.

도립미술관은 지난해 예술과 ‘쓰레기’의 접점을 다룬 기획으로 지속 가능한 세계에 대한 상상을 제안했던 특별전《버릴 것 없는 전시》로 국내·외 작품들을 한자리에 모아 소통의 장을 형성하고 4만 6천 여명의 관람객과 만났다.

2025년 특별전 《진격하는 B급들》은 동시대 미술에서 B급으로 분류되는 시각언어와 현실 속 ‘2등 시민’으로 간주되는 존재들의 접점을 포착한다. 이 전시는 다양한 삶의 초상에 시각예술의 형식을 입힌 작품들을 통해 ‘자본주의적 삶의 조건’에 의해 소외된 존재들의 이야기를 다루고, 미술관이라는 특수한 공간에서 대상을 ‘미적으로 바라보는 태도’의 모순에 대해 질문한다.

국내·외 작가 23팀과 함께하는 이번 전시에는 전년도 베니스 비엔날레의 슬로건이자 동명의 작품 ‘외국인은 어디에나 있다(Foreigners everywhere)’로 화제를 모은 영국-이탈리아 출신 아티스트 그룹 ‘클레어 퐁텐(Claire Fontaine)’이 참여한다. 이 외에도 국립현대미술관이 2007년 주최한 <올해의 작가>에 선정된 정연두, 2012년부터 SBS 문화재단의 후원이 더해져 개편된 <올해의 작가상>의 역대 선정 작가인 방정아, 이강승 및 수상 작가 정은영의 작품까지 한자리에서 만나볼 수 있다. 또한 소보람, 엄수현 등 전북 청년 예술가들이 합류해 인간 중심주의에서 벗어나 넓은 의미의 평등에 관한 메시지를 공유한다.

다양한 국적과 매체로 이뤄진 작품 72점이 참여하는 《진격하는 B급들》은 오는 8월 1일(금)부터 11월 2일(일)까지 진행되며, 화요일부터 일요일 오전 10시부터 오후 6시까지 무료로 관람할 수 있다. 또한 매일 오전 10시 30분과, 11시 30분, 오후 2시와 3시에 각각 전시 해설(도슨트)이 진행되어 보다 풍성한 관람 가이드를 제공할 예정이다.

- Shedding light on entities considered B-grade in art and everyday life

The Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art (Director Lee Ae-seon, hereinafter referred to as the 'Provincial Museum of Art'), which aims for an open art museum for enjoyment and sharing, will hold a special exhibition titled "Advancing B-Grades" in galleries 1-5 of the main building from the 1st onwards.

Last year, the Provincial Museum of Art proposed a sustainable world through the intersection of art and 'trash' in a special exhibition titled "An Exhibition with Nothing to Discard," bringing together domestic and international works in one place to create a space for communication, meeting with over 46,000 visitors.

The 2025 special exhibition "Advancing B-Grades" captures the intersection of visual language classified as B-grade in contemporary art and entities considered 'second-class citizens' in reality. Through works that give visual art forms to various portraits of life, this exhibition deals with the stories of entities excluded by the 'conditions of capitalist life' and questions the contradiction of the attitude of 'aesthetic observation of the subject' in the special space of an art museum.

This exhibition, featuring 23 teams of domestic and international artists, includes the British-Italian artist group 'Claire Fontaine,' who gained attention with the slogan and artwork 'Foreigners everywhere,' which was also the slogan of the previous year's Venice Biennale. In addition, artists such as Jung Yeon-doo, who was selected as the by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in 2007, Bang Jung-ah, a past recipient of the revamped with the support of the SBS Culture Foundation since 2012, Lee Kang-seung, and award-winning artist Jung Eun-young will be present. Furthermore, young artists from Jeonbuk, such as So Boram and Eom Su-hyun, will join to share messages about broad meanings of equality beyond anthropocentrism.

The exhibition "Advancing B-Grades," featuring 72 works created by artists of various nationalities and media, will run from August 1 (Friday) to November 2 (Sunday), and can be viewed for free from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additionally, guided tours will be conducted daily at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. to provide a more enriching viewing experience.
