전주시가 8일 옛 전주종합경기장 야구장 부지에서 ‘전주 MICE복합단지 도시개발사업’ 착공식을 열고 본격적인 사업 추진에 들어갔다. 착공식에는 우범기 전주시장, 남관우 전주시의회 의장, 시의원과 시민 등 200여 명이 참석했다.

이번 사업은 2028년까지 약 180억 원을 투입해 전시컨벤션센터를 중심으로 문화·산업시설, 숙박·판매시설 등 복합시설을 조성하는 것이 핵심이다. 1단계로 내부 도로·주차장 조성 및 구조물 철거를 진행한 뒤, 2단계로 전시컨벤션센터·한국문화원형 체험전시관·전주시립미술관·호텔·백화점 등의 건립에 맞춰 기반시설을 확충한다.

시는 이번 사업을 통해 MICE(회의·포상관광·컨벤션·전시) 중심도시로 도약하고, 지역경제 활성화와 도시 브랜드 가치 제고를 목표로 하고 있다.

On the 8th, Jeonju City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Jeonju MICE Complex Urban Development Project' at the former Jeonju Comprehensive Stadium baseball field, marking the official start of the project. The ceremony was attended by around 200 people, including Woo Bum-gi, the Mayor of Jeonju, Nam Gwan-woo, the Chairman of the Jeonju City Council, city council members, and citizens.

This project aims to invest approximately 18 billion Korean won by 2028 to create a complex facility including exhibition and convention centers, cultural and industrial facilities, accommodation, and retail spaces. The project will begin with the first phase focusing on the construction of internal roads, parking lots, and the demolition of existing structures. The second phase will involve the construction of facilities such as the exhibition and convention center, a Korean cultural experience exhibition hall, the Jeonju City Art Museum, hotels, and department stores, while also expanding the infrastructure to support these developments.

The city aims to transform into a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) hub through this project, with the goal of revitalizing the local economy and enhancing the city's brand value.
