전북도립미술관(관장 이애선)이 소장품 전시 《올림픽 축제는 우리도 즐길 줄 알지》를 19일부터 전북도청 전시실에서 개최한다. 이 전시는 1988년 서울올림픽 때 수도권에 집중되던 미술 프로젝트에 문제를 제기하고, 스스로 올림픽 기념 전시회를 개최하였던 전북 미술가들의 이야기를 담고 있다.

황소연, 김수자, 홍현철 등 당시 청·장년이었던 전북의 작가들은 일본 이다(飯田) 미술연구회와 공동으로 한일 현대미술전운영위원회를 결성하고, 전북예술회관에서 《88 서울올림픽 아트 페스티발-한·일 현대미술전》을 개최하였다. 그리고 이 전시 서문에는 ‘지역에서 활동하고 있다는 자부심’갖기를 당당히 촉구하였다.

이번 전시에는 당시 전시에 출품되었던 문복철과 최원의 작품 두 점과 37년 전 전시에 함께 참여했지만 지금은 원로 작가가 된 전북 작가들의 2000년대 작품까지 총 18점이 관람객을 맞는다.

2036년 하계올림픽 후보 도시로 전북자치도가 결정된 지 약 6개월이 지났다. 88 서울올림픽 당시 변방에 머물렀던 전북의 작가들이 드디어 축제의 중심에 가까워졌다. 그리고 이 전시는 그들이 2036년 올림픽 미술 축제의 주인공이 되길 기원하는 의미까지 담고 있다.

이 전시는 29일 오전까지 전북도청 1층 전시실에서 진행되며, 운영 시간은 오전 9시부터 오후 6시까지이다. 주말과 공휴일은 휴관하며 관람료는 무료이다. 문의는 290-6878.

The Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art (Director Lee Ae-seon) will hold an exhibition of its collection titled "We Know How to Enjoy the Olympic Festival Too" at the Jeonbuk Provincial Government Exhibition Hall from the 19th. This exhibition contains the stories of Jeonbuk artists who raised issues with the art projects concentrated in the capital region during the 1988 Seoul Olympics and independently organized an Olympic commemorative exhibition.

At that time, artists from Jeonbuk, such as Hwang So-yeon, Kim Su-ja, and Hong Hyeon-cheol, who were young and middle-aged, formed a joint South Korea-Japan Modern Art Exhibition Operating Committee with the Japanese Ida Art Research Association and held the "88 Seoul Olympics Art Festival - South Korea-Japan Modern Art Exhibition" at the Jeonbuk Arts Center. In the preface to this exhibition, they boldly urged to take pride in 'being active in the region.'

This exhibition will feature two works by Moon Bok-cheol and Choi Won, which were exhibited at the time, as well as 18 works by Jeonbuk artists who participated in the exhibition 37 years ago and have now become senior artists, showcasing their works from the 2000s.

It has been about six months since Jeonbuk Province was selected as a candidate city for the 2036 Summer Olympics. The Jeonbuk artists who stayed on the outskirts during the 88 Seoul Olympics have finally come closer to the center of the festival. This exhibition also carries the meaning of their hope to become the protagonists of the Olympic art festival in 2036.

The exhibition will run until the morning of the 29th at the 1st floor exhibition hall of the Jeonbuk Provincial Government, operating from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. On weekends and public holidays, it will be closed, and admission is free. For inquiries, contact 290-6878.
