전주세계소리축제조직위원회(이하 소리축제, 조직위원장 이왕준)는 전통음악 기반 예술단체의 국내외 시장 진출을 지원하고 작품 유통과 실질적인 협업을 촉진하는 새로운 플랫폼 ‘소리 넥스트(SORI NEXT)’의 쇼케이스 프로그램 <소리프론티어>을 통해 최종 1개 팀을 선정했다.

소리축제는 올해 문화체육관광부와 (재)예술경영지원센터가 후원하는 ‘2025 장르별 시장 거점화 지원사업’ 선정 축제로 ‘소리 넥스트’를 새롭게 론칭하고 기획‧공모 쇼케이스, 토크, 팸투어, 네트워킹 등 다양한 프로그램을 진행했다.

이 중 <소리프론티어>는 공모형 쇼케이스로 기존 신진 발굴에 중점을 두었던 소리축제의 프로그램을 국내외 시장 진출까지 도울 수 있도록 영역을 확장해 선보였다. 최종 선정된 팀은 ‘우리음악집단 소옥’으로 전통의 본질을 지키면서도 현시대의 감각에 맞춘 대중적인 음악을 지향하고 있는 팀이다.

<소리프론티어>는 지난 6월 참가자 공개 모집 후 7월 12일 실연 심사를 통해 총 4개 팀을 선정했다. 이들은 이후 합숙 워크숍인 ‘슈퍼위크’에 참여했으며, 소리축제 기간(8. 13.~14.) 중 ‘소리 넥스트’ 쇼케이스를 통해 국내외 전문가와 관객들에게 각자의 음악을 선보였다. 이러한 과정을 거쳐 ‘우리음악집단 소옥’이 최종 선정됐다.

최종 심사는 천재현 소리프론티어 예술감독, 계명국 자라섬재즈페스티벌 감독, 이수정 DMZ 피스트레인 뮤직페스티벌 예술감독 등 국내 전문가들과 바네사 첸 웨이유잉 국립가오슝아트센터 프로그램 코디네이터, 레이첼 쿠퍼 아시아 소사이어티 감독, 클라우디아 발라델리 아쉐 월드 페스타 공동 창립자 등 해외 전문가들로 구성된 심사위원단의 점수를 합산했으며 가장 높은 점수를 받은 팀으로 선정했다.

천재현 예술감독은 “소옥의 음악은 예술적 완성도와 확장 가능성, 국제 시장에서의 경쟁력을 두루 갖추었으며, 세계 무대에서도 충분히 통할 잠재력을 지니고 있다.”고 평가했다.

최종 선정된 ‘우리음악집단 소옥’은 최고 특전인 해외 쇼케이스의 기회를 갖는다. 오는 10월 주헝가리 한국문화원의 한글날 기념 공연과 불가리아에서 열리는 소피아뮤직위크 등 유럽에서 공식 데뷔 공연을 펼친다. 이번 공연은 ‘소리 넥스트’ 첫해의 성과로서 한국 전통음악 기반 창작자들이 국제 음악시장에 진출하는 중요한 발판이 될 것으로 기대된다.

김희선 소리축제 집행위원장은 “소리프론티어는 아티스트 발굴을 넘어 창작자들의‘다음(NEXT)’을 함께 준비하는 프로그램으로 자리매김했다.”며 “최종으로 선정돼 ‘소옥’이 세계 무대에서 한국 전통음악의 새로운 가능성을 증명하기를 바란다”고 밝혔다.

The organizing committee of the Jeonju World Sound Festival (hereinafter referred to as the Sound Festival, chaired by Ee Wong-jun) has selected one final team through the showcase program "Sound Frontier" of the new platform 'SORI NEXT,' which supports the domestic and international market entry of traditional music-based arts organizations and promotes work distribution and practical collaboration.

This year, the Sound Festival, selected as a festival for the '2025 Genre Market Hub Support Project' sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the (Korea Arts Management Service), newly launched 'SORI NEXT' and conducted various programs such as planning, open call showcases, talks, farm tours, and networking.

Among these, "Sound Frontier" was presented by expanding the scope of the Sound Festival's program, which had previously focused on discovering emerging artists, to help them enter the domestic and international markets. The final team selected is the 'Our Music Group Soak,' a team that aims to create popular music that is in line with the sensibilities of the modern era while preserving the essence of tradition.

After the public recruitment of participants in June, four teams were selected through the live audition on July 12. They then participated in a residency workshop called 'Super Week,' and during the Sound Festival period (August 13-14), they showcased their music to domestic and international experts and audiences through the 'SORI NEXT' showcase. Through this process, 'Our Music Group Soak' was finally selected.

The final judging was based on the scores of a panel of judges composed of domestic experts such as Cheon Jae-hyun, Sound Frontier Artistic Director, Kye Myeong-guk, Jarasum Jazz Festival Director, Lee Soo-jeong, DMZ Peace Train Music Festival Artistic Director, and international experts such as Vanessa Chen Weiyu, Program Coordinator at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, Rachel Cooper, Director of Asia Society, and Claudia Valdeli, Co-Founder of Ashe World Festa.

Cheon Jae-hyun, the Artistic Director, evaluated, "Soak's music has artistic completeness, expandability, competitiveness in the international market, and has the potential to resonate well on the world stage."

The finally selected 'Our Music Group Soak' will have the special opportunity to showcase overseas. They will have official debut performances in Europe, including a performance at the Hungarian Cultural Center in October for Hangul Day and at the Sofia Music Week in Bulgaria. This performance is expected to be an important stepping stone for Korean traditional music-based creators to enter the international music market as an achievement of the first year of 'SORI NEXT.'

Kim Hee-sun, Executive Director of the Sound Festival, stated, "Sound Frontier has established itself as a program that prepares for the 'next' of creators beyond artist discovery." She added, "Being selected as the final team, we hope 'Soak' will prove the new possibilities of Korean traditional music on the world stage."
