호남문고가 오는 20일 오후 2시, 제48회 이상문학상 대상을 수상한 예소연 작가를 초청해 ‘작가와의 만남’을 연다. 예소연의 신작과 수상 소식을 함께 조명하며, 세대와 이념을 넘어서는 연대의 감수성을 독자와 나누는 자리다.

예소연은 2021년 『현대문학』 신인추천으로 작품 활동을 시작해 등단 4년 만에 이상문학상 대상의 영예를 안았다. 수상작 「그 개와 혁명」은 1980년대 학생운동 세대와 2020년대 페미니스트 청년 세대가 의기투합해 ‘개판’을 도모하는 장면을 통해, 이데올로기를 압도하는 사랑과 포용의 서사를 그려냈다는 평을 받았다. 심사위원회는 “가히 혁명적인 포용의 서사”라고 평가했고, 예소연은 “우리의 삶에 좀 더 유연함이 깃들기를 바라는 마음으로 썼다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

이번 호남문고 ‘작가와의 만남’은 2025년 문학 상주작가 지원사업의 일원으로 ‘문화체육관광부’가 주최하고 ‘한국문화예술위원회’가 주관, 국민체육진흥공단에서 후원을 한다.
현재 호남문고에는 김성철 시인이 상주작가로 집필실에 상주하며 매주 독서클럽 ‘시시각각’과 ‘시창작교실’을 열고 있으며 한 달에 한 번 상주작가와의 대화 프로그램을 운영 중이다.

예소연의 대표작으로는 소설집 『사랑과 결함』, 장편소설 『고양이와 사막의 자매들』, 중편소설 『영원에 빚을 져서』등이 있다. 2023년 문지문학상과 황금드래곤문학상을 거쳐 2025년 이상문학상 대상에 이르기까지, 빠른 상승 곡선을 그리며 한국문학의 주목받는 목소리로 자리매김했다. 최근에는 「스타트라인」, 「내가 이런 데서 일할 사람이 아닌데」, 「소란한 속삭임」 등 신작을 발표하며 작품 세계를 확장하고 있다.

이번 만남에서는 수상작 집필 배경과 창작 과정, 세대 연대와 포용이라는 주제를 중심으로 한 작가의 세계관, 그리고 이상문학상 수상에 대한 뒷이야기가 소개될 예정이다. 행사 후 사인회가 예정되어 있으며, 현장에서는 예소연 대표작과 수상작 수록 작품집을 만나볼 수 있다.

호남문고 측은 “세대의 간극을 문학적 상상력으로 잇는 예소연 작가의 목소리를 가까이에서 듣는 소중한 시간이 될 것”이라며 “지역 독자들의 많은 관심과 참여를 바란다”고 전했다.

On the 20th of this month at 2 p.m., Honam Bookstore will host a "Meeting with the Author" event featuring Yeso-yeon, who won the 48th Isang Literature Award. The event will highlight Yeso-yeon's latest work and the news of her award, sharing with readers the sensitivity of solidarity that transcends generations and ideologies.

Yeso-yeon began her literary career in 2021 with a recommendation from "Hyundae Munhak" magazine and achieved the honor of winning the Isang Literature Award just four years after her debut. Her award-winning work, "The Dog and the Revolution," received praise for depicting a scene where the student activist generation of the 1980s and the feminist youth generation of the 2020s collaborate to create a 'mess,' portraying a narrative of love and inclusivity that overwhelms ideology. The judging committee evaluated it as "a truly revolutionary narrative of inclusivity," and Yeso-yeon expressed her feelings by saying, "I wrote with a desire for more flexibility to be woven into our lives."

The "Meeting with the Author" event at Honam Bookstore is part of the 2025 Literature Resident Writer Support Project, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organized by the Korea Arts and Culture Council, and supported by the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation. Currently, poet Kim Seong-cheol is the resident writer at Honam Bookstore, conducting weekly book club sessions and poetry workshops, as well as monthly dialogue programs with resident writers.

Yeso-yeon's notable works include the short story collection "Love and Flaws," the novel "Sisters of the Cat and the Desert," and the novella "Debt to Eternity." From winning the Moonji Literature Award and the Golden Dragon Literature Award in 2023 to receiving the Isang Literature Award in 2025, she has established herself as a prominent voice in Korean literature with a rapid rise. Recently, she has been expanding her literary world by releasing new works such as "Start Line," "I'm Not Meant to Work Here," and "Noisy Whisper."

During this upcoming meeting, the background and creative process of her award-winning work, as well as the themes of generational solidarity and inclusivity, will be the focus, along with behind-the-scenes stories of winning the Isang Literature Award. A book signing event is scheduled after the session, where attendees can meet Yeso-yeon and get copies of her representative works and award-winning pieces.

Honam Bookstore stated, "It will be a precious time to hear Yeso-yeon's voice, which bridges the generation gap with literary imagination," and expressed hope for the interest and participation of local readers.
