-시외고속버스 장애인이동권 보장 촉구 기자회견 열려

장애인도 차별 없이 시외고속버스를 이용할 수 있도록 이동권 보장을 촉구하는 목소리가 전주에서 울려 퍼졌다.

전북장애인차별철폐연대(전북장차연)와 전국장애인이동권연대 전북지부는 2일 오전 10시 30분, 전주고속버스터미널 주차장 옆에서 기자회견을 열고 “장애인도 명절에 버스를 타고 고향에 가고 싶다”며 정부와 운수회사의 책임 있는 조치를 요구했다.

이날 단체는 “광주지법이 지난 2월 금호고속이 휠체어 리프트 설치를 하지 않은 것은 장애인 차별이라는 판결을 내렸음에도, 여전히 국가와 지자체, 운수회사는 이동권 보장을 외면하고 있다”고 비판했다.

장애인 이동권 운동은 2000년대 초반부터 이어져 왔으며, 시내 저상버스와 특별교통수단 도입 등 성과가 있었지만 시외고속버스의 경우 단 한 대의 휠체어 탑승 가능 차량도 없는 실정이다. 2019년 일부 노선에서 시범 운행된 리프트 버스마저 코로나19를 이유로 사라졌다.

전북장차연 관계자는 “장애인의 이동할 권리는 기본권이자 생존권”이라며 “앞으로 전북 주요 운수회사를 상대로 소송과 행동을 이어가 장애인도 차별 없이 버스를 타고 고향에 갈 수 있는 세상을 만들겠다”고 밝혔다.

Press conference urging guarantee of disabled people's right to use intercity buses

A voice calling for the guarantee of the right of disabled individuals to use intercity buses without discrimination echoed in Jeonju.

On the morning of the 2nd, the Jeonbuk Alliance for the Abolition of Discrimination against the Disabled (Jeonbuk Jangcha Yeon) and the Jeonbuk branch of the National Alliance for the Mobility of the Disabled held a press conference at 10:30 a.m. next to the Jeonju Express Bus Terminal parking lot, demanding responsible actions from the government and transportation companies, stating, "Disabled individuals also want to take buses to their hometowns during holidays."

The group criticized, "Despite a court ruling in February that GoldStar Express did not install wheelchair lifts, which was deemed discrimination against the disabled, the government, local authorities, and transportation companies continue to neglect the guarantee of mobility rights."

The movement for the mobility rights of disabled individuals has been ongoing since the early 2000s, with achievements such as the introduction of low-floor buses in urban areas and special transportation services. However, when it comes to intercity buses, there is not a single vehicle capable of accommodating wheelchairs. Even the lift buses that were piloted on some routes in 2019 disappeared due to COVID-19.

An official from Jeonbuk Jangcha Yeon stated, "The right of disabled individuals to move is a fundamental right and a right to survival," adding, "We will continue legal action and advocacy against major transportation companies in Jeonbuk to create a world where disabled individuals can take buses to their hometowns without discrimination."
