전주시는 사회보장기금을 활용한 ‘기초학력 학습지원사업’을 통해 전주지역 중학교 2~3학년 80명(완산 43명, 덕진 37명)에게 1인당 20만 원의 학습비를 지원했다고 10일 밝혔다.
이번 사업은 국민기초생활보장 수급 가정 학생 중 학업 의지가 높고 품행이 단정하지만 경제적 사정으로 학습 기회가 부족한 청소년을 대상으로 안정적 학습 환경을 제공해 기초학력 향상을 돕는 데 목적이 있다.

시는 이번 지원으로 저소득층 청소년의 기초학력 보강과 학업 성취도 제고, 학업 자신감 및 정서 안정에 긍정적 효과가 있었다고 평가했다. 내년에는 지원 대상을 확대해 학습 격차 해소와 교육복지 기반 강화를 추진할 계획이다.

김현옥 전주시 생활복지과장은 “기초학력은 모든 배움의 출발점이자 미래를 준비하는 핵심 기반”이라며 “아이들이 스스로의 가능성을 믿고 더 큰 꿈으로 나아가도록 사업을 꼼꼼히 챙기겠다”고 말했다.

Jeonju City announced on the 10th that it supported 80 students in the 2nd and 3rd grades of middle schools in Jeonju (43 from Wan-san and 37 from Deokjin) with a learning fee of 200,000 won per person through the 'Basic Literacy Learning Support Project' utilizing the social security fund.

The purpose of this project is to provide a stable learning environment for adolescents from low-income families who have a strong desire for education and good behavior but lack learning opportunities due to economic reasons, in order to help improve their basic literacy skills.

The city evaluated that this support had a positive effect on enhancing the basic literacy of low-income youth, improving academic achievement, boosting academic self-confidence, and emotional stability. Next year, they plan to expand the target recipients to promote narrowing the learning gap and strengthening the educational welfare infrastructure.

Kim Hyun-ok, head of the Jeonju City Welfare Department, stated, "Basic literacy is the starting point of all learning and the core foundation for preparing for the future," adding, "We will carefully take care of the project so that children can believe in their potential and move towards bigger dreams."
