(재)완주문화재단 복합문화지구 누에가 23일 오후 7시 카페 <실마리>에서 ‘완주, 중년 희곡’을 주제로 낭독회를 연다.

이 낭독회는 문화체육관광부와 한국문화예술위원회가 주최·주관한 ‘2025년 중장년 인문프로그램’에 선정된 ‘2막학교: 인생은 아름다워’의 일환으로, 참가자들이 자신의 삶을 짧은 분량의 희곡으로 쓰고, 직접 무대에 올리는 참여형 인문학 프로그램이다.

‘2막학교’는 9월과 10월 두 달 동안 희곡을 알고, 쓰고, 낭독하고, 책으로 내는 네 가지 세부 사업으로 나눠 차례대로 진행하고 있다.

참가자들은 기존 희곡 작품에 담긴 인물들의 다채로운 인생사를 만나며 자기 삶에 위로와 화해를 건넸고, 개인 혹은 팀을 이뤄 10분∼30분 분량의 희곡을 창작했다. 자신이 살아온 내력부터 부모·사랑·설화·자녀·지역·직업·친구 등 소재는 다양했다. 김근혜 동화작가, 이경옥 동화작가, 최기우 극작가, 최아현 소설가가 참가자들의 작품 기획과 구성, 문장 등을 함께 고민하며 집필을 도왔다. ‘낭독극 공연’은 창작된 희곡을 참가자들이 직접 배우가 돼 무대에 올리는 시간이다. 정경선 연출가, 조민지 배우, 이우송 배우가 연기 연습을 도왔다.

전체 참가자 중 열세 명이 자신의 이름을 건 열세 편의 작품을 써냈다. 김송화의 「생강생강해」, 김정연의 「완주 음식 유람」, 박미희의 「창밖의 빛」, 선태백의 「10년 후에 우리는」, 안채령의 「담치기」, 오영란의 「완주의 두 예인」, 유향덕의「팥쥐 콩쥐」, 이남례의 「울 엄마의 꽃날」, 이덕례의 「맞선」, 이연옥의 「빨강 구두」, 이용현의 「마라톤은 팀플레이」, 정은아의 「나는 문제없어」, 주용식의 「핑계가 되지 않게」이다. 완주군의 역사·문화 콘텐츠를 소재로 했거나 희곡의 장점을 살려 무한한 상상을 보여주었거나 중년의 다채로운 빛깔을 선보인 작품들이다.

이날 낭독회에서는 참가자들이 쓴 13편의 창작 희곡 중에서 「팥쥐 콩쥐」, 「완주 음식 유람」, 「울 엄마의 꽃날」, 「맞선」, 「10년 후에 우리는」 5편을 선보인다.

유향덕의 「팥쥐 콩쥐」는 완주군 이서면을 배경으로 한 고전 「콩쥐팥쥐」를 ‘팥쥐 엄마의 재혼’, ‘콩쥐 일을 몰래 도와주는 팥쥐’, ‘콩쥐의 혼인’ 등을 주요 사건으로 각색한 작품이다. 부모의 재혼으로 갑자기 가족이 된 팥쥐와 콩쥐가 여러 사건을 거치며 진정한 가족이 되는 이야기다.

김정연의 「완주 음식 유람」은 완주군 13개 읍·면의 음식을 소재로 한 창작판소리다. 봉동면의 생강처럼 오랜 세월 전해졌거나 삼례 딸기처럼 새로운 자랑이 된 특산품을 비롯해 국수, 닭볶음탕, 순두부백반, 한우, 한정식, 화덕피자 등 온갖 음식이 맛깔나게 소개된다.

이남례의 「울 엄마의 꽃날」은 딸과 대화로 들려주는 정 많은 94세 엄마의 소소한 인생 이야기이다. 다큐멘터리 <인간극장>을 보듯이 담담하면서도 재치 있게 풀어낸 글솜씨는 많은 독자와 관객에게 부모님에 대한 그리움과 기록의 소중함을 일깨울 것이다.

이덕례의 「맞선」에는 아버지와 어머니, 딸이 나온다. 작품 제목과 등장인물만으로도 짐작될 만큼 내용은 뻔하지만, 가족 간의 익숙하면서도 낯선 대화는 독특한 매력을 선사하며 작품 속으로 빨려들게 한다. 서로를 위한 진심이 담긴 진솔한 말들이 살아서 뛰놀다가 가슴을 벅차게 하기 때문이다.

선태백의 「10년 후에 우리는」은 중년에 찾아온 ‘사랑’에게 들려주는 서약이다. 완주군의 조용한 시골집에서 사랑하는 사람과 두 번째 인생을 열어가는 일상을 상상하면서 한 글자 한 글자 써나갔다. 작품 말미에는 ‘끝사랑’을 향한 진솔한 고백도 이어진다.

책임 강사로 참여한 최기우 극작가는 “열정적인 도전으로 희곡을 쓴 열세 분을 비롯해 이 사업에 참여한 분들의 찬란한 인생 2막을 기대한다”라며 “인간의 삶과 가장 친숙한 언어로 쓰인 희곡으로 지난 삶을 돌아보고 새로운 희망을 상상하는 두 번째, 세 번째 여행으로 이어지길 바란다”라고 말했다.

The Wanju Cultural Foundation will hold a recitation event on the theme of "Wanju, Middle-aged Play" at Cafe Silmari at 7 p.m. on the 23rd.

This recitation event is part of the "2025 Middle-aged Humanities Program," selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts and Culture Education Service, where participants write short plays about their lives and perform them on stage in a participatory humanities program.

The "2nd Act School" is divided into four detailed projects: learning, writing, reciting, and publishing plays over the course of September and October.

Participants created plays ranging from 10 to 30 minutes, drawing inspiration from various aspects of their lives such as their personal history, parents, love, folklore, children, region, occupation, and friends. Writers and artists like Kim Geun-hye, Lee Kyung-ok, Choi Ki-woo, and Choi A-hyun helped participants with the planning, composition, and writing of their works.

Thirteen participants wrote plays, each with a unique theme related to Wanju County's history and culture or showcasing the diverse colors of middle age.

At the recitation event, five plays will be presented: "Pat Rat and Bean Rat," "Wanju Food Tour," "Our Mother's Flower Day," "Matchmaking," and "Where We'll Be in 10 Years."

"Pat Rat and Bean Rat" is a reinterpretation of the classic tale "Bean Rat and Pat Rat," set in Wanju County, focusing on events like Pat Rat's mother's remarriage and Bean Rat secretly helping with Pat Rat's work, leading to the two becoming a true family.

"Wanju Food Tour" is a creative pansori piece based on the food of Wanju County's 13 towns and villages, introducing a variety of dishes like noodles, spicy chicken stew, tofu rice, Korean beef, traditional Korean meals, and brick-oven pizza.

"Our Mother's Flower Day" tells the simple life story of a 94-year-old mother through conversations with her daughter, evoking a sense of longing and the importance of recording memories about one's parents.

"Matchmaking" features a father, mother, and daughter, presenting familiar yet unfamiliar dialogues among family members, filled with sincere and heartfelt words that resonate with the audience.

"Our Future in 10 Years" is a vow to 'love' that comes in middle age, imagining a second life with a loved one in a quiet rural house in Wanju County.

Playwright Choi Ki-woo, who participated as a responsible instructor, expressed his expectations for the participants' brilliant second acts, saying, "I hope this project, written in the most familiar language of human life, will lead to reflections on past lives and imagining new hopes as a second or third journey."
