(재)전주문화재단(대표이사 최락기) 한지진흥원은 전주 지역에서 재배된 고품질 닥나무 30톤을 수매하며 국내산 전통한지 원료의 안정적 공급 기반을 한층 강화했다.

이번 수매는 전통한지의 핵심 원료인 닥나무의 내수율을 높여 품질 향상과 산업 경쟁력 강화에 직접적으로 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

국내 전통한지 산업은 오랫동안 수입산 원료 의존도가 높았다. 이를 개선하기 위해 전주시와 전주문화재단은 2017년부터 ‘전주산 닥나무 내수율 확대 사업’을 추진해 왔으며, 2019년부터는 ‘전주산 닥나무 수매 사업’을 본격화해 지역 농가와의 협력 체계를 지속적으로 강화해왔다.

전주문화재단은 올해 전주시 내 12개 농가, 20개 필지에서 닥나무를 식재·관리해 왔으며, 2025년에는 흑석골 지역 1개 필지를 추가 확보해 총 3만1천여 그루 규모로 재배 기반을 확대할 계획이다.

이번에 수매한 30톤의 닥나무는 전년(20톤) 대비 크게 증가한 물량으로, 닥무지 과정을 거치면 약 4.5톤의 흑피가 생산된다. 이는 A4 용지 기준 약 53만 장의 전통한지를 제작할 수 있는 분량이다.

한지진흥원은 이번에 확보한 전주산 흑피를 전주천년한지관의 전통한지 제조에 일부 활용하고, 나머지는 지역 한지장 및 전통한지 제작업체에 공급해 지역 한지 산업 생태계를 더욱 견고하게 만들 계획이다.

The Jeonju Cultural Foundation (Representative Director Choi Rak-gi) Hanji Promotion Institute has secured 30 tons of high-quality paper mulberry trees cultivated in the Jeonju region, further strengthening the stable supply base of domestic traditional hanji materials.

This procurement is expected to directly contribute to the improvement of quality and enhancement of industrial competitiveness by increasing the domestic yield of paper mulberry, a core raw material of traditional hanji.

The domestic traditional hanji industry has long been dependent on imported raw materials. In order to improve this, since 2017, Jeonju City and the Jeonju Cultural Foundation have been promoting the 'Jeonju Paper Mulberry Domestic Yield Expansion Project,' and since 2019, they have been actively promoting the 'Jeonju Paper Mulberry Procurement Project,' continuously enhancing the cooperative system with local farming households.

This year, the Jeonju Cultural Foundation has been cultivating and managing paper mulberry trees in 12 farming households and 20 fields within Jeonju City, and plans to expand the cultivation base to a total of over 31,000 trees by securing an additional field in Heukseokgol area by 2025.

The 30 tons of paper mulberry procured this time is a significantly increased quantity compared to the previous year (20 tons), and through the processing of paper mulberry, approximately 4.5 tons of black bark can be produced. This amount is equivalent to producing about 530,000 sheets of traditional hanji based on A4 paper standards.

The Hanji Promotion Institute plans to partially utilize the black bark from Jeonju paper mulberry secured this time in the production of traditional hanji at the Jeonju Millennium Hanji Museum, and supply the rest to local hanji workshops and traditional hanji manufacturers to further strengthen the local hanji industry ecosystem.
