국립민속국악원(원장 김중현)은 석암 정경태 명인의 ｢국악보｣(1955)를 중심으로, 전북 풍류 음악을 학술적으로 분석한 자료집 『민속음악학학술자료집 제6집: 전북의 풍류 – 정경태 국악보와 전북 민속음악의 기록』을 발간했다.

이번 자료집은 전북 지역 풍류 문화의 형성과 전승 양상을 조망하고, 석암 정경태(1917~2003)가 전주고등학교에서 국어교사 재직하던 1955년에 간행한 ｢국악보｣를 중심으로 전북 민속음악의 음악사적 의미와 자료적 가치를 심층적으로 분석한 학술서다.

｢국악보｣는 1950년대 전북과 호남 일대에서 연행되던 풍류 음악의 실제 모습을 담아낸 중요한 기록으로, 지역 음악 문화 연구의 핵심 자료로 평가받아 왔다.

도서에는 전북 지역 풍류 문화의 사회·역사적 배경을 비롯해 ｢국악보｣에 수록된 기악·성악·범패·무용 관련 악보와 기록을 다각도로 분석한 연구 글이 수록됐다. 또한 당시의 기보 체계와 음악 인식을 함께 살펴봄으로써, 전북 민속음악이 지닌 지역적 특성과 예술적 성격을 입체적으로 조명했다.

특히 이번 자료집에는 ｢국악보｣에 수록된 주요 악보와 기록을 바탕으로, 현대 연구·교육·연주 환경에서 참고할 수 있도록 오선악보로 역보(譯譜)하여 수록했다. 이는 전통 기보법의 가치를 보존하는 동시에, 연구·교육·연주 현장에서의 활용도를 높이기 위한 시도로, 전북 풍류 음악의 전승과 확산에 실질적인 기초 자료를 제공한다는 점에서 의미가 크다.

국립민속국악원 양영진 학예연구사(편집 총괄)는 “정경태 명인이 집필한 ｢국악보｣는 전통과 근대가 스치던 1950년대의 전북을 고스란히 품은 문화의 기록유산이며, 금번 발행하는 『전북의 풍류』는 전북 음악 문화를 입체적으로 이해하는 데 도움이 될 것”이라고 말했다.

The National Gugak Center (Director Kim Joong-hyun) has published a compilation of academic materials titled "Folk Music Studies: Volume 6 - Jeonbuk's Pungnyu - Jeong Gyeong-tae's Gugakbo and Records of Jeonbuk Folk Music," focusing on Jeong Gyeong-tae's "Gugakbo" (1955), a masterwork of Seokam.

This compilation delves into the formation and transmission of the Pungnyu music culture in Jeonbuk region, particularly highlighting the musical and historical significance of Jeonbuk folk music, centered around "Gugakbo" published by Jeong Gyeong-tae (1917-2003) while serving as a Korean language teacher at Jeonju High School in 1955.

"Gugakbo" is considered a crucial record depicting the actual state of Pungnyu music prevalent in Jeonbuk and Honam regions in the 1950s, and has been evaluated as a core material for regional music culture research.

The book includes research articles analyzing the social and historical background of the Pungnyu music culture in Jeonbuk, as well as the scores and records related to instrumental music, vocal music, dance, and entertainment included in "Gugakbo" from various perspectives. By examining the notation system and musical perception of that time, it sheds light on the regional characteristics and artistic nature of Jeonbuk folk music comprehensively.

In particular, this compilation includes translations of the main scores and records from "Gugakbo" into Western musical notation for reference in modern research, education, and performance environments. This effort aims to preserve the value of traditional notation methods while enhancing their practical utility in research, education, and performance settings, providing substantial foundational materials for the transmission and dissemination of Jeonbuk Pungnyu music.

"Folk Music Studies: Volume 6 - Jeonbuk's Pungnyu" is a culmination of the ongoing research and survey results on folk music by the National Gugak Center, expected to be widely utilized by regional folk music researchers, traditional music specialists, and performers. The book can be downloaded and viewed through the National Gugak Center's website (namwon.gugak.go.kr).

Yang Young-jin, a research fellow at the National Gugak Center (overall editor), stated, "Jeong Gyeong-tae's 'Gugakbo' is a cultural heritage that encapsulates the 1950s Jeonbuk era where tradition and modernity intersect, and the publication of 'Jeonbuk's Pungnyu' will be helpful in comprehensively understanding Jeonbuk's music culture."
