새만금개발청(청장 김의겸)은 5일 주한 중국대사 다이빙(戴兵), 경제공사 왕즈린(王治林) 등 방문단을 접견하여, 새만금 개발 현황을 공유하고 중국 기업의 새만금 투자협력 확대 방안을 논의했다.

이번 새만금 방문은 APEC 한중 정상회담과 이재명 대통령의 방중을 계기로 양국 간 경제협력 논의가 재개·확대되는 흐름 속에서 이루어졌다.

특히 새만금이 한중 경제협력의 핵심 거점으로서 지닌 전략적 가치와 성장 잠재력을 확인하고, 실질적인 협력 방안을 모색하기 위한 자리로 마련됐다.

이날 김의겸 새만금개발청장은 새만금사업 추진 현황을 설명하면서, “새만금이 산업·물류·에너지·관광 기능을 복합적으로 갖춘 미래 성장 거점으로 도약하기 위해 신재생에너지 기반의 기업 친화적인 최적의 투자 환경을 조성해 나가고 있다”라고 소개했다.

특히 새만금 국가산업단지는 한중 양국 정부가 공식 지정한 한중산업단지로, 최근 중국 기업들의 관심이 높아지고 있는 상황이라고 강조했다.

또한, 새만금은 풍부한 재생에너지 잠재력을 기반으로 RE100 산업단지 조성을 본격 추진 중이며, 이는 글로벌 공급망 변화와 탄소 중립 실현에 대응하고자 하는 중국 기업들에게도 매력적인 투자 여건이 될 것이라고 설명했다.

양측은 향후 중국 주요 투자자들로 구성된 새만금 방문단을 추진 하는 등 구체적인 협력 방안에 대해서도 의견을 교환했다.

다이빙 주한 중국대사는 “새만금은 한중 산업협력의 상징적인 공간”이라며, “신재생에너지와 친환경 산업의 중요성이 커지고 있는 만큼, 한중산업단지 투자 활성화와 RE100 산업단지에 대한 중국 기업의 참여 가능 방안을 적극적으로 모색해 보겠다”라고 말했다.

김의겸 새만금개발청장은 “이번 주한 중국대사 방문단의 새만금 방문은 한중 정상외교 흐름 속에서 새만금이 실질적인 경제협력 거점으로 주목받고 있음을 보여주는 계기”라며, “이번 기회를 살려 한중산업단지로서의 새만금이 중국발 투자로 다시 한번 큰 도약을 할 수 있도록 긴밀한 협조를 이어 나가겠다”라고 밝혔다.

Saemangeum Development Agency (Director Kim Ui-gyeom) met with a visiting delegation including Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Dai Bing and Economic Counselor Wang Zhilin on the 5th to share the current status of Saemangeum development and discuss ways to expand cooperation with Chinese companies investing in Saemangeum.

This visit to Saemangeum took place in the context of discussions on economic cooperation between the two countries being resumed and expanded, following the APEC summit between China and South Korea and President Lee Jae-myung's visit to China.

In particular, the visit aimed to confirm the strategic value and growth potential of Saemangeum as a key hub for economic cooperation between South Korea and China and to explore practical cooperation measures.

Director Kim Ui-gyeom explained the progress of the Saemangeum project, stating, "Saemangeum is creating an optimal investment environment friendly to companies based on renewable energy to leap as a future growth hub with industrial, logistics, energy, and tourism functions."

He emphasized that Saemangeum National Industrial Complex is an officially designated industrial complex by the governments of both South Korea and China, and there is increasing interest from Chinese companies in this area.

Furthermore, based on its abundant potential for renewable energy, Saemangeum is actively promoting the establishment of an RE100 industrial complex, which will be an attractive investment opportunity for Chinese companies seeking to adapt to global supply chain changes and achieve carbon neutrality.

Both sides exchanged views on concrete cooperation measures, including the promotion of a Saemangeum visit by a delegation composed of major Chinese investors in the future.

Chinese Ambassador Dai Bing described Saemangeum as a symbolic space for South Korea-China industrial cooperation, stating, "As the importance of renewable energy and eco-friendly industries is increasing, I will actively seek ways for Chinese companies to participate in the activation of the South Korea-China industrial complex and the RE100 industrial complex."

Director Kim Ui-gyeom stated, "The visit to Saemangeum by the Chinese Ambassador's delegation is an opportunity to demonstrate that Saemangeum is being recognized as a practical hub for economic cooperation within the context of South Korea-China diplomatic relations," and added, "Taking advantage of this opportunity, we will continue to closely cooperate to enable Saemangeum to make another significant leap as a South Korea-China industrial complex through Chinese investments."
