전주시 평화도서관은 청각장애인의 정보 격차를 해소하고 독서문화를 확산하기 위해 오는 10일부터 ‘2026년 장애인 독서문화프로그램’을 운영한다고 1일 밝혔다.

이 사업은 국립장애인도서관이 주최한 공모사업에 선정돼 추진하는 사업으로, 평화도서관은 지난해 성공적인 사업 수행에 이어 2년 연속 공모에 선정되는 쾌거를 거두며 지역 내 장애인 독서 복지 분야의 우수한 역량을 입증했다.

운영되는 주요 프로그램은 △사서와 함께 도서관 이용법을 배우는 ‘도서관 사서와의 만남’ △청각장애인과 비장애인이 함께 수어로 소통하며 배우는 ‘중급 수어교실 <손으로 전하는 소통>’ △수어영상도서를 활용한 독후 활동 프로그램 △그림책과 식물을 통해 심리적 치유를 돕는 ‘원예 테라피<꽃으로 엮는 마음>’ 등이다.

특히 오는 17일부터 시작되는 ‘중급 수어교실’의 경우 지난 4월 운영된 초급 과정에서 참가자들이 보여준 성실한 참여와 높은 학습 성과를 바탕으로 마련된 심화 프로그램이다.

평화도서관은 이 프로그램을 통해 청각장애인과 비장애인이 함께 수어 소통 능력을 한 단계 더 확장할 기회를 제공할 예정이다.

이영섭 도서관평생학습본부장은 “이번 프로그램은 농통역사와 수어통역사가 참여해 청각장애인들이 장벽 없는 양질의 문화 콘텐츠를 누릴 수 있도록 기획했다”면서 “2년 연속 공모에 선정된 만큼, 앞으로도 장애 유무와 관계없이 누구나 도서관에서 책과 문화를 즐길 수 있도록 독서 복지 사각지대 해소에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

The main programs being operated include: △ 'Meeting with Librarians' to learn how to use the library with librarians △ 'Intermediate Sign Language Class ' where hearing-impaired and non-hearing-impaired individuals communicate together in sign language △ Reading activities using sign language video books △ 'Horticultural Therapy ' to help psychological healing through picture books and plants.

In particular, the 'Intermediate Sign Language Class' starting on the 17th is an advanced program prepared based on the diligent participation and high learning outcomes shown by the participants in the beginner course held in April.

Through this program, the Peace Library plans to provide an opportunity for hearing-impaired and non-hearing-impaired individuals to further expand their sign language communication abilities.

Lee Young-seop, Director of the Library Lifelong Learning Division, said, "This program was planned with sign language interpreters and sign language interpreters participating to allow hearing-impaired individuals to enjoy barrier-free high-quality cultural content." He added, "As we have been selected for the public offering for two consecutive years, we will continue to do our best to eliminate blind spots in reading welfare so that anyone, regardless of disability, can enjoy books and culture at the library."
