전주문화재단(대표이사 최락기) 전주천년한지관은 흑석골 지역 어르신들과 함께 한 예술공동체 활동의 성과전시 「스미고 번진 흑석골 이야기」를 오는 19일부터 7월 17일까지 전주천년한지관에서 개최한다고 밝혔다.

이번 전시는 전주 한지의 역사와 숨결이 살아 있는 마을 ‘흑석골’을 지켜온 주민들이 참여해 마련됐으며, 참여자들은 10주 동안 한지를 매개로 자신의 삶과 기억을 되돌아보고 서로의 이야기를 엮어가는 문화예술 활동을 이어왔다.

특히 이번 프로젝트는 전통 한지 제조기술을 계승하는 후계자들이 직접 제작한 한지를 활용해 의미를 더했다.

어르신들은 먹, 닥나무, 오방색 등 다양한 전통 재료를 활용해 마음속에 남아있던 풍경과 인물을 저마다의 방식으로 표현했다. 작품 속에는 참여자들의 설렘과 망설임, 두려움과 기쁨 등 삶의 다양한 감정이 손끝을 통해 고스란히 스며들어 있다.

전시에 참여한 김당덕(85세) 어르신은 “몸이 아플 때는 서글프지만 해님처럼 밝고 따뜻하게 지내고 싶어 내 호를 ‘해님’이라 지었다”며 “여기에 와서 함께 어울리다 보니 어린아이가 된 것처럼 즐거웠다”고 소감을 전했다.

이어 정점순(80세) 어르신은 “한지에 물을 뿌리고 작업할 때 먹이 번져나가는 모습을 보면 마음이 편안해진다”며 “전주천년한지관 덕분에 이런 뜻깊은 경험을 하게 되어 감사하다”고 덧붙였다.

최락기 재단 대표이사는 “이번 전시는 오랜 시간 이곳을 삶의 터전으로 지켜온 흑석골 어르신들의 삶과 기억이 한지 위에 자연스럽게 스며든 기록” 이라며 “앞으로도 지역사회와 긴밀히 호흡하는 어르신 예술공동체 활동을 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

Jeonju Cultural Foundation (CEO Choi Rak-gi) announced that the Jeonju Millennium Hanji Center will host an exhibition titled "Ink-Stained Memories of Heukseokgol" from the 19th of this month until July 17th, in collaboration with elderly residents of the Heukseokgol area as part of their community art activities.

This exhibition was prepared with the participation of residents who have preserved the history and spirit of Jeonju Hanji in the village of Heukseokgol. Participants have been engaging in cultural and artistic activities for ten weeks, reflecting on their lives and memories through Hanji and intertwining their stories with each other.

In particular, this project added significance by utilizing Hanji made by successors who are inheriting traditional Hanji manufacturing techniques.

Elderly participants expressed the landscapes and people lingering in their minds using various traditional materials such as mulberry, daknamu, and natural dyes in their own ways. The artworks vividly convey the participants' excitement, hesitation, fear, and joy, all of life's diverse emotions, seeping through their fingertips.

Kim Dang-deok (85 years old), one of the elderly participants in the exhibition, shared his thoughts, saying, "When my body aches, I feel sad, but I want to live brightly and warmly like the sun, so I named myself 'Sun' here," and added, "Being here and mingling together made me happy like a child."

Similarly, Jeong Jeom-soon (80 years old) mentioned, "When I sprinkle water on the Hanji and work, seeing the dye spread calms my heart," and expressed gratitude, saying, "Thanks to the Jeonju Millennium Hanji Center, I had this meaningful experience."

Choi Rak-gi, the CEO of the foundation, stated, "This exhibition is a natural record where the lives and memories of the elderly residents of Heukseokgol, who have preserved this place as the foundation of their lives for a long time, seamlessly blend into Hanji," and added, "We will continue to expand elderly art community activities that closely interact with the local community in the future."
