전주여자고등학교 개교 100주년 기념사업회(공동회장 최명자·남상숙)와 총동창회(회장 유정화), 그리고 재경 동창회(회장 박주현)는 오는 5월 25일 오전 9시부터 모교 운동장 및 강당에서 역사적인 ‘전주여고 개교 100주년 기념식 및 정기총회’를 개최한다고 20일 밝혔다.

이번 기념식은 '100년의 가치로 세계를 두드리다'라는 비전 아래, 지나온 한 세기의 자랑스러운 역사를 기념하고 앞으로 나아갈 미래 100년의 도약을 선포하기 위해 마련되어 국내외 동문과 재학생, 교육계 및 지역사회 주요 인사 등 1,600여 명이 참석해 자리를 빛낼 예정이다.

이날 행사는 총 4부로 나누어 규모 있게 진행된다. 1부(식전행사): 사회자 최영미(48회) 동문의 진행으로 총동창회의 오랜 숙원사업이었던 강당, 식생활관, 다목적실을 갖춘 ‘100주년 기념관’ 개관식(테이프 컷팅)이 거행된다. 이어 모교의 발자취와 도약을 형상화한 ‘100주년 기념탑’ 제막식과 기념식수 등이 현장 생중계로 진행된다.

2부 기념식은 이재운 동문(44회)의 사회로 기수단 입장, 1926년 개교 이래 한 세기의 역사와 비전을 담은 홍보영상 시청, 개교 100주년 기념사업회 공동회장의 대회사에 이어 개교 100주년 4대 비전사업 영상, 총동창회장 및 내빈 축사가 이어진다.


특히 100년의 역사를 집대성한 ‘전주여고 100년사’ 헌정식과 함께, 일제강점기 적광회 사건 등 항일 독립운동을 했던 故 임부득 선배에게 바치는 명예졸업장 수여식이 거행되어 깊은 감동을 선사할 예정이다. 또한 인재 양성을 위한 대규모 장학기금 및 모교 발전기금 전달식과 연합합창단의 웅장한 축가가 울려 퍼진다.

오후에는 정기총회에서는 동창회 결산보고와 함께 제15대 총동창회장(최경은, 53회) 인준 및 인사가 진행되며, 동문들이 함께 어우러지는 화합의 시간으로 대단원의 막을 내린다.

■ 5월 한 달간 전북 전역을 물들인 축제의 장, ‘개교 100주년 릴레이 행사’

25일 기념식에 앞서 동문과 도민이 함께 즐길 수 있도록 5월 한 달간 ‘개교 100주년 기념 릴레이 행사’가 이어진다.

지난 5월 6일 ‘영란골프대회(정읍 태인CC)’와 5월 9일 ‘영란파크골프대회(비봉 파크골프장)’를 성황리에 마쳤다.

이어 22일 전북예술회관에서 열리는 ‘영란특별전’에는 어반스케치, 프랑스 자수, 전통 자수, 퀼트, 미니 정원 등 동문들의 정성이 담긴 다채로운 작품이 전시되고 23일 오전 동문 200여 명이 참여한 가운데 치명자산성지 평화의 전당을 출발해 전주한옥마을 명소와 전주여고 옛터비를 걷는 '건강·행복 나눔 걷기행사'를 통해 100년의 전통을 돌아보고 지속가능한 미래 그리고 실천하는 '에코 워킹'을 행사를 진행한다.

같은 날 오후에는 모교 강당에서 '동호회 발표회 페스티벌'이 열린다. 지난 2년간 준비한 난타, 훌라댄스, 하모니카, 플라멩코, 설장구, 밴드 등 동문과 재학생이 합동으로 꾸민 열정적인 무대로 동문젠체가 하나되는 장이 펼쳐진다.

24일 오후 5시에는 한국소리문화의전당 모악당에서 ‘개교 100주년 기념 영란음악회’가 개최된다. 오케스트라의 웅장한 연주와 동문과 우리 지역 출신 음악인들의 명품 클래식 및 국악 공연, 그리고 전주·재경 연합합창단이 선사한 천상의 하모니는 100주년 기념식의 서막을 100주년 기념식의 열기를 정점으로 끌어올릴 것으로 기대하고 있다.

개교100주년기념사업회 최명자⋅남상숙 공동회장과 유정화 총동창회장은 “이번 개교 100주년 기념식은 단순히 흘러간 한 세기를 축하하는 자리가 아니라, 국내외 각계각층에서 활약 중인 3만 3천여 동문의 저력을 하나로 모으는 역사적인 터닝포인트”라며, “모교가 우리 지역을 넘어 세계를 무대로 하는 창의융합형 미래 인재를 육성할 수 있도록 새로운 100년의 기반을 든든히 다지겠다”고 포부를 밝혔다.

김유진 전주여고 교장 역시 “지난해 교육부 공모 자율형 공립고 사업 선정에 이어, 지난 해 IB 후보학교를 거쳐 올해는 월드스쿨 인증을 준비하고 있다”며 “동문들이 보내주신 뜨거운 사랑과 지원을 바탕으로 학생들이 글로벌 리더로 성장할 수 있도록 교육 활동에 최선을 다하겠다”고 감사의 뜻을 전했다.

The Jeonju Girls' High School Centennial Celebration Committee (Co-Chairs Choi Myeong-ja and Nam Sang-suk) and the Alumni Association (President Yoo Jeong-hwa) announced on the 20th that they will hold a historic "Jeonju Girls' High School Centennial Celebration and Regular General Assembly" at the school's sports field and auditorium on May 25th starting at 9 a.m.

This commemorative event, under the vision of "Impacting the World with 100 Years of Values," is designed to commemorate the proud history of the past century and declare the leap into the future of the next 100 years. Approximately 1,600 alumni, current students, education professionals, and key figures from the local community, both domestic and international, are expected to attend and illuminate the event.

The event will be divided into four parts. Part 1 (pre-ceremony): Hosted by alumna Choi Young-mi (Class of '48), the long-awaited opening ceremony of the "Centennial Memorial Hall," equipped with an auditorium, dining hall, and multipurpose room, will take place. This will be followed by the unveiling of the "Centennial Memorial Tower" symbolizing the school's footsteps and leap, and the commemorative ceremony will be broadcast live on-site.

Part 2, the commemoration ceremony, will include the entry of the procession led by alumna Lee Jae-woon (Class of '44), viewing of a promotional video encapsulating a century of history and vision since the school's establishment in 1926, followed by a speech by the Co-Chairs of the Centennial Celebration Committee, and videos on the four major vision projects for the 100th anniversary of the school, along with speeches by the Alumni Association President and guests.

In particular, a ceremony honoring the 100-year history, the "Jeonju Girls' High School Centennial History Tribute," will be held, along with the presentation of honorary diplomas to nine senior alumni (including the late senior Lim Bu-deok) who were expelled due to their involvement in anti-Japanese independence movements during the Japanese colonial era and the Gwangju Student Movement, preventing them from realizing their graduation dreams. Additionally, a large scholarship fund and school development fund will be presented for fostering talents, and a grand chorus by a united choir will resonate.

In the afternoon, during the regular general assembly, the alumni association's financial report will be presented, and the inauguration and appointment of the 15th President of the Alumni Association (Choi Kyung-eun, Class of '53) will take place, concluding with a time of harmony where alumni come together.

■ Throughout May, a festival celebrating the 100th anniversary of the school will color the entire Jeonbuk region with various events.

Before the commemoration ceremony on the 25th, a month-long "Centennial Celebration Relay Event" will be held for alumni and local residents to enjoy together.

On May 6th, the "Yeongran Golf Tournament (at Jeongeup Taein Country Club)" and on May 9th, the "Yeongran Park Golf Tournament (at Bibong Park Golf Club)" were successfully completed.

Following these, on the 22nd, the "Yeongran Special Exhibition" will be held at the Jeonbuk Art Center, featuring various works filled with the dedication of alumni, including urban sketches, French embroidery, traditional embroidery, quilts, mini gardens, and more. On the 23rd, in the morning, around 200 alumni will participate in a "Health and Happiness Sharing Walk" starting from the Peace Hall in Chimsan Fortress and walking through the famous spots in Jeonju Hanok Village and the former site of Jeonju Girls' High School, reflecting on the school's 100-year tradition and engaging in sustainable practices through "Eco Walking."

In the afternoon of the same day, a "Club Presentation Festival" will be held at the school auditorium. Over the past two years, alumni and current students have prepared a passionate joint stage featuring martial arts, hula dance, harmonica, flamenco, traditional Korean drumming, and band performances, uniting all alumni in a lively event.

On the 24th, at 5 p.m., the "Yeongran Music Concert" will be held at the Korea Sound Culture Center Moak Hall. Expectations are high for the grand orchestral performance, exquisite classical and traditional Korean music performances by alumni and local musicians, and the celestial harmony presented by the Jeonju-Jaekyeong United Choir, which will elevate the excitement of the 100th anniversary celebration to its peak.

The Co-Chairs of the Jeonju Girls' High School Centennial Celebration Committee, Choi Myeong-ja and Nam Sang-suk, along with President Yoo Jeong-hwa of the Alumni Association, expressed their aspirations, stating, "This centennial celebration is not just a commemoration of a century past but a historic turning point that brings together the strengths of the 33,000 alumni active in various fields domestically and internationally," and vowed, "We will firmly lay the foundation for a new century to nurture future talents with a creative and convergent global perspective beyond our local region."

Kim Yoo-jin, the principal of Jeonju Girls' High School, also expressed gratitude, saying, "Following last year's selection in the Ministry of Education's autonomous public high school project, this year, we have been officially approved as the first school in our region to be a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP)." She added, "We will do our best in educational activities based on the warm love and support from our alumni, to help students grow into global leaders."
