세계 각국 지방정부와 국내외 석학, 글로벌 관광 전문가들이 전주에 모여 글로벌 관광도시의 미래 전략을 모색한다.

전주시는 오는 17일부터 18일까지 이틀간 라한호텔과 국립무형유산원 등 전주시 일원에서 ‘2026 전주미래도시포럼’을 개최한다고 15일 밝혔다.

전주시가 주최하고 세계지방정부연합 아시아·태평양지부(UCLG ASPAC), EU 국제도시협력프로그램(IURC), 시티넷(CITYNET)이 후원하는 이번 포럼은 올해로 4회째다.

‘글로벌 도시관광, 미래로의 진화(Global Urban Tourism: Evolving into the Future)’를 주제로 열리는 이번 포럼에는 국내외 도시·기관 관계자와 관광 분야 전문가, 시민, 청년 등이 참여해 전주의 글로벌 관광도시 도약을 위한 전략과 해법을 공유한다.

포럼 첫날인 17일에는 라한호텔 1층 온고을홀에서 개막식을 시작으로 MICE·미식·스포츠를 주제로 한 세션이 차례로 진행된다.

세션1 ‘MICE: 도시의 경제지도를 바꾸는 힘’에서는 민경중 한국외국어대학교 초빙교수가 좌장을 맡고 제레미 심 싱가포르 테마섹 폴리테크닉 경영대학 부학장, 모종린 연세대 교수, 백기준 휴스턴대 무어석좌교수, 허준 동덕여대 교수가 참여해 MICE를 활용한 도시 관광 플랫폼 구축 방안을 논의한다.

세션2 ‘미식: 도시의 풍미, 가치를 담은 여정’에서는 에밀리아 가토 주한 이탈리아 대사를 비롯해 장민영 ㈜아워플래닛 대표, 박찬일 칼럼니스트, 미슐랭 그린스타 김지혜 피오또 오너셰프 등이 연사로 나선다.

이들은 전통 식문화 보존을 비롯해 체험형 미식관광, 제로웨이스트 순환형 미식도시 등 도시의 음식문화를 관광자원으로 발전시키기 위한 다양한 방안을 제시할 예정이다.

세션3 ‘스포츠: 시대를 잇는 즐거운 도시 유산’에서는 헌터 퓨잭 호주 디킨대 스포츠경영학과 교수가 호주 스포츠관광 경제 사례를 소개하고 중견도시에 적용할 수 있는 시사점을 짚는다.

이어 류성옥 고려대 교수, 김민수 한국스포츠과학원 스포츠산업연구실장, 안정은 런더풀 대표 등이 도시 스포츠시설과 관광의 연계 가능성을 중심으로 의견을 나눈다.

둘째 날인 18일에는 국립무형유산원 3층 어울마루 국제회의장에서 야간관광과 스마트관광을 주제로 한 세션이 이어진다.

세션4 ‘야간관광: 도시 활력의 새로운 브랜드’에서는 EU 야간경제네트워크 소속 도시들이 참여해 유럽 도시들의 야간관광 정책과 사례를 공유한다.

이탈리아 제노바와 포르투갈 브라가의 정책 사례가 소개되며, 용선중 전주관광재단 대표이사는 지방도시의 야간관광을 통한 도시 브랜드 발전 방향을 발표할 예정이다.

포럼의 마지막 세션인 세션5 ‘스마트관광: 사람과 기술이 만드는 지속가능한 미래’는 EU IURC 네트워크와 연계해 열린다.

이충기 경희대 명예교수와 가토 쿠미 일본 와카야마대 교수가 기조발제를 맡으며, 이탈리아 프라토와 포르투갈 코임브라, 말레이시아 세베랑 페라이, 인도 강톡 등 파트너 도시의 사례도 공유된다.

또 이승한 전주시정연구원 연구위원(탄소중립지원센터장)이 스마트관광과 지속가능한 도시 발전을 위한 방안을 발표한다.

전주시는 이번 포럼을 통해 세계 도시 관계자 및 전문가들과 도시관광의 글로벌 흐름을 공유하고 전주의 미래 관광 비전을 구체화한다는 계획이다.

특히 포럼을 일회성 국제행사에 그치지 않고 도시 혁신과 국제교류를 촉진하는 플랫폼으로 지속 발전시켜 전주의 글로벌 도시 경쟁력을 높여나간다는 방침이다.

홍소지 전주시 국제협력담당관은 “이번 전주미래도시포럼은 국내외 전문가들과 함께 전주의 미래 관광 비전을 모색하는 뜻깊은 자리”라며 “사전등록을 하지 못한 시민들도 현장 등록을 통해 자유롭게 참여할 수 있는 만큼 많은 관심과 참여를 부탁드린다”고 말했다.

Local governments from around the world, domestic and international scholars, and global tourism experts gathered in Jeonju to explore the future strategies of a global tourism city.

Jeonju City announced on the 15th that it will host the "2026 Jeonju Future City Forum" for two days from the 17th to the 18th at locations including the La Han Hotel and the National Intangible Heritage Center in Jeonju.

Organized by Jeonju City and sponsored by the UCLG ASPAC (United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific), EU International Urban Cooperation Program (IURC), and CITYNET, this forum is in its fourth year.

Under the theme "Global Urban Tourism: Evolving into the Future," this forum brings together domestic and international city officials, tourism experts, citizens, and youth to share strategies and solutions for Jeonju's leap as a global tourism city.

On the first day of the forum, the opening ceremony will take place at the Ongoeul Hall on the 1st floor of La Han Hotel, followed by sessions on MICE, gastronomy, and sports.

In Session 1, "MICE: The Power to Change the Economic Landscape of Cities," discussions will revolve around building city tourism platforms using MICE, led by Professor Min Kyung-jung from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and other experts.

Session 2, "Gastronomy: A Journey Filled with the Flavor and Value of Cities," will feature speakers such as Emilia Gatto, the Italian Ambassador to Korea, and others discussing ways to develop the city's food culture as a tourism resource.

Session 3, "Sports: A Pleasurable Urban Heritage Connecting Generations," will explore the application of sports tourism economics in mid-sized cities, led by Professor Hunter Fujak from Deakin University in Australia and other experts.

On the second day, sessions on night tourism and smart tourism will take place at the International Conference Hall on the 3rd floor of the National Intangible Heritage Center.

Session 4, "Night Tourism: A New Brand of Urban Vitality," will feature European cities sharing policies and cases of night tourism, including examples from Genoa, Italy, and Braga, Portugal.

The final session, Session 5, "Smart Tourism: A Sustainable Future Created by People and Technology," will be held in collaboration with the EU IURC network, featuring keynote speakers and case studies from partner cities.

Through this forum, Jeonju City aims to share global trends in urban tourism with city officials and experts worldwide, as well as solidify Jeonju's future tourism vision. The city plans to develop the forum into a platform that promotes city innovation and international exchange, enhancing Jeonju's global city competitiveness.

Hong So-ji, the head of international cooperation at Jeonju City, stated, "The Jeonju Future City Forum is a significant opportunity to explore Jeonju's future tourism vision with domestic and international experts," and encouraged citizens who have not pre-registered to participate freely through on-site registration.
