《FOMO n JOMO》
Writer Kim Jin-kyung, who continues his creative activities in Buan, will hold a book talk on the theme "Are You Happy?" at Seokjeong Literary Hall on the 28th at 5 p.m.
This book talk will revolve around his autobiographical essay "Unofficial Record of an Ordinary Hero" and the novel "FOMO n JOMO," discussing topics such as success and failure, family and records, comparison and anxiety, and "the pace of one's own life" with readers.
Kim, who experienced business failure in his youth and lived as a businessman in China for over 20 years, settled in Buan after retiring. After reflecting on his life while walking the 1,000 km Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route with his wife, he began writing in earnest.
When asked by his Seoul acquaintances why he moved to the countryside, he replied, "I am going to catch up on my diary that has been lagging behind all my life."
The "lagging diary" he mentions is not just about writing. It is about walking with his wife while looking at the sunset, feeling the change of seasons, forming relationships with neighbors, and rediscovering the everyday life he had overlooked.
"Unofficial Record of an Ordinary Hero" is a book that records the lives of ordinary people who work for their families, get up again after failures, and hold their ground, rather than stories of successful individuals.
"FOMO n JOMO" questions whether having more and moving faster than others incessantly, driven by anxiety and competition, leads to happiness.
Kim says, "It's not about saying that life in Seoul is wrong and life in Buan is right. What's important is finding the pace of life that suits oneself, not the speed set by others."
In this book talk, he also poses a question to the readers, "Are you happy now? And whose standards define that happiness?"
The event will include discussions on his works, readings, music performances, and conversations with the audience, and attendees will receive two of Kim Jin-kyung's books for free.
