전북특별자치도는 11일 완주가족문화교육원에서 ‘제23회 대한민국 아동총회 전북지역대회’를 열고, 전국대회에 참가할 전북 대표 아동 5명을 선발했다.

이번 대회는 전북특별자치도아동보호전문기관 주관으로 진행됐으며, 도내 초등학교 1학년부터 고등학교 1학년까지 아동 60명과 지도자, 관계기관 관계자 등 110여 명이 참석했다.

올해 대회는 ‘학업 부담과 아동 권리’를 주제로 열렸다. 참가 아동들은 아동권리 교육을 받은 뒤 조별 토론을 통해 학업 부담이 아동의 삶과 권리에 미치는 영향을 논의하고, 건강한 성장과 행복한 학교생활을 위한 정책 제안을 담은 결의문을 작성했다.

이후 조별 발표와 참여 아동 투표를 거쳐 전북지역대회 결의문을 채택했으며, 선발된 대표 아동 5명은 오는 8월 열리는 대한민국 아동총회 전국대회에 참가해 전북 아동들의 의견을 전달할 예정이다.

대한민국 아동총회는 유엔 아동권리협약의 정신을 바탕으로 아동이 자신의 의견을 자유롭게 표현하고 정책을 제안하는 참여 프로그램이다.

이미숙 전북자치도 여성가족과장은 “이번 대회는 아동들이 지역사회 문제를 스스로 고민하고 해결방안을 제안하며 민주적인 의사결정 과정을 경험한 자리”라며 “아동의 의견이 정책에 실질적으로 반영될 수 있도록 참여 기회를 확대하겠다”고 말했다.

Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province held the '23rd Republic of Korea Children's Assembly Jeonbuk Regional Competition' at Wanju Family Culture Education Center on the 11th and selected five Jeonbuk representative children to participate in the national competition.

The event, organized by the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Child Protection Specialized Agency, was attended by 60 children from 1st grade elementary school to 1st grade high school in the province, as well as 110 participants including instructors and officials from related organizations.

This year's competition was held under the theme of 'Academic Burden and Children's Rights'. The participating children received education on children's rights, engaged in group discussions to explore the impact of academic burden on children's lives and rights, and drafted resolutions containing policy proposals for healthy growth and happy school life.

Following group presentations and participation of children in voting, the Jeonbuk Regional Competition adopted a resolution. The five selected representative children will participate in the national competition of the Republic of Korea Children's Assembly in August to convey the opinions of Jeonbuk children.

The Republic of Korea Children's Assembly is a participatory program where children freely express their opinions and propose policies based on the spirit of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Im Mi-Sook, head of the Women and Family Department of Jeonbuk Province, stated, "This event provided children with an opportunity to reflect on and propose solutions to local community issues, experiencing a democratic decision-making process," adding, "We will expand participation opportunities to ensure that children's opinions are effectively reflected in policies."
