전주시가 온실가스 감축과 미세먼지 저감을 위해 올해 상반기 전기자동차 764대를 보급하는 ‘전기자동차 민간 보급사업’을 추진한다.

시는 전기승용차 640대, 전기화물차 120대, 전기승합차 4대를 지원할 계획이며, 신청은 오는 23일부터 시작해 예산 소진 시 조기 마감된다. 신청 자격은 신청일 기준 전주시에 60일 이상 연속 거주한 시민과 전주시에 본사 또는 지사를 둔 법인·단체다.

전주시는 2025년 말 기준 전체 전기자동차 9,030대 중 8,101대에 보조금을 지급해 약 90%의 지원 성과를 거뒀다.

올해는 내연기관차(하이브리드 제외)를 3년 이상 보유한 개인이 차량을 판매하거나 폐차한 뒤 전기차를 구매할 경우 추가 지원하는 ‘전환지원금’을 새로 도입한다. 국비 최대 100만 원, 지방비 최대 30만 원이 기존 구매보조금에 더해진다.

이와 함께 청년 생애 최초 구매자는 해당 차량 국비 지원액의 20%를 추가로 지원받을 수 있으며, 다자녀 가구는 자녀 수에 따라 최대 350만 원까지 추가 지원된다.

보조금 신청은 차량 구매자가 제작·수입사 대리점과 계약을 체결한 뒤 대리점이 무공해차 통합누리집을 통해 신청하는 방식으로 진행된다. 지원 차량은 최초 등록일로부터 8년간 의무운행기간을 지켜야 하며, 기간 내 타 시·도로 양도하거나 말소할 경우 보조금이 환수될 수 있다.

김현옥 전주시 복지환경국장은 “내연기관차에서 전기차로 전환하는 시민들의 부담을 줄이기 위해 전환지원금을 도입했다”며 “상반기부터 체계적인 보급을 통해 친환경 차량 전환 효과를 높이겠다”고 밝혔다.

Jeonju City is pushing forward with the 'Private Electric Vehicle Distribution Project' to supply 764 electric vehicles in the first half of this year for greenhouse gas reduction and fine dust reduction.

The city plans to support 640 electric passenger cars, 120 electric cargo vehicles, and 4 electric multipurpose vehicles, with applications starting on the 23rd and closing early when the budget is exhausted. Eligibility for application includes citizens who have resided in Jeonju City for more than 60 consecutive days as of the application date, as well as corporations or organizations with headquarters or branches in Jeonju City.

As of the end of 2025, Jeonju City had provided subsidies to 8,101 out of a total of 9,030 electric vehicles, achieving support for approximately 90% of the vehicles.

This year, a new 'conversion support fund' will be introduced for individuals who have owned internal combustion engine vehicles (excluding hybrids) for more than 3 years and sell or scrap their vehicles to purchase electric cars. This fund will provide up to a maximum of 1 million won in national funds and 300,000 won in local funds in addition to the existing purchase subsidies.

In addition, first-time young buyers will receive an additional 20% of the national support amount for the vehicle, and households with multiple children will receive additional support of up to 3.5 million won depending on the number of children.

The subsidy application process will involve the vehicle purchaser signing a contract with the manufacturer or importer's dealership, which will then apply through the eco-friendly vehicle integrated online service. Supported vehicles must adhere to a mandatory operating period of 8 years from the initial registration date, and if transferred or scrapped in another city or province within this period, the subsidy may be reclaimed.

Kim Hyun-ok, head of the Jeonju City Welfare and Environment Department, stated, "We have introduced the conversion support fund to reduce the burden on citizens transitioning from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric cars," and expressed, "Starting from the first half of the year, we will increase the effectiveness of eco-friendly vehicle conversion through systematic distribution."
