민선9기 전주시 첫 투자유치기업인 동미전기공업㈜에 이어 자회사인 ㈜에이치디엠이도 전주에 약 610억 원을 투자해 초고압변압기 생산공장을 짓기로 했다.

전주시는 15일 시청 4층 대회의실에서 전북특별자치도, 연구개발특구진흥재단 전북연구개발특구본부, ㈜에이치디엠이와 전주 탄소소재 국가산업단지 내 초고압변압기 생산공장 신설을 위한 투자협약을 체결했다.

이날 협약식에는 조지훈 전주시장과 고정삼 전북특별자치도 경제부지사, 유진혁 전북연구개발특구본부장, 전만준 ㈜에이치디엠이 대표이사, 한상욱 동미전기공업(주) 회장 등 관계자들이 참석했다.

㈜에이치디엠이는 동미전기공업㈜이 신규 투자를 위해 설립한 자회사로, 오는 2029년까지 전주 탄소소재 국가산업단지 내 3만6975㎡ 부지에 총 610억 원을 투자해 154kV급 이상 초고압변압기 생산공장을 신설한다. 또, 이곳에서 80명의 신규 일자리를 창출할 계획이다.

이번 투자는 지난달 10일 동미전기공업㈜과 전주 친환경첨단복합산업단지에 250억 원 규모의 몰드변압기 생산공장 투자 협약을 체결한 지 한 달여 만에 이뤄진 것으로, 동미전기공업㈜은 이번 자회사 투자 협약을 통해 2단계 투자를 공식화했다. 두 기업의 총투자 규모는 860억 원에 달한다.

특히 이번 투자는 동미전기공업㈜이 기존 22.9kV급 배전변압기 중심의 사업구조에서 154kV급 이상 초고압변압기 분야로 사업 영역을 확대하는 것으로, 전주에 미래 전력산업의 새로운 생산 기반이 구축된다는 점에서 의미가 크다.

이에 시는 최근 인공지능(AI) 데이터센터 확산에 따른 전력 수요 증가와 글로벌 전력망 교체·확충 수요가 맞물리면서 변압기 산업의 성장세가 이어짐에 따라, 이번 투자가 피지컬AI와 AI 데이터센터 등 지역 미래산업 육성에 마중물 역할을 할 것으로 내다봤다.

On the 15th, Jeonju City signed an investment agreement for the establishment of a high-voltage transformer production plant within the Jeonju Carbon Material National Industrial Complex with a total investment of about 61 billion won, at the 4th-floor conference room of the City Hall, with Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, the Jeonbuk Research and Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation, HD M Co., Ltd., and others.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Jo Geun-hoon of Jeonju, Director Ko Jeong-sam of the Economic Department of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, Director Yoo Jin-hyuk of the Jeonbuk Research and Development Special Zone Headquarters, CEO Jeon Man-jun of HD M Co., Ltd., and Chairman Han Sang-wook of Dongmi Electric Industry Co., Ltd.

HD M Co., Ltd., a subsidiary established by Dongmi Electric Industry Co., Ltd., for new investments, plans to invest a total of 61 billion won in a new high-voltage transformer production plant of 154kV or higher in a 36,975m² site within the Jeonju Carbon Material National Industrial Complex by 2029. They also plan to create 80 new jobs at this site.

This investment, made just a month after signing a 25 billion won investment agreement for a transformer production plant in the Jeonju Eco-friendly Advanced Industrial Complex with Dongmi Electric Industry Co., Ltd. on the 10th of last month, formalizes the second phase of investment through this subsidiary investment agreement. The total investment of the two companies amounts to 86 billion won.

In particular, this investment marks a significant expansion of the business scope of Dongmi Electric Industry Co., Ltd., transitioning from its existing business structure centered on 22.9kV distribution transformers to the field of high-voltage transformers of 154kV or higher, establishing a new production base for the future power industry in Jeonju.

In light of the increasing power demand due to the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and the overlapping demand for global power grid replacement and expansion, the city anticipates that this investment will play a significant role in fostering regional future industries such as Physical AI and AI data centers.
