Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 19th that the "2026 Sunflower Festival" was held at the provincial office performance hall, organized by the Jeonbuk Mental Rehabilitation Facility Association, with about 670 members and staff from mental rehabilitation facilities in the province in attendance.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the Sunflower Festival, with the slogan "Building the Future Together, Our Challenge," was designed to promote interaction among individuals with mental disabilities, enhance community consciousness and self-confidence, and provide emotional recovery and vitality in life through various cultural and artistic activities.

The festival brought together members and staff from 25 mental rehabilitation facilities in 10 cities and counties in the province, along with their families. Various programs such as a special 20th-anniversary performance, art festivals, mental health awareness videos, singing and dance competitions, literary and art exhibitions, and photography contests were conducted, allowing participants to showcase their talents and engage in communication.

Governor Lee Won-taek of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province attended the event, delivering a congratulatory message and acknowledging the contributions of those who have worked towards promoting mental health and rehabilitation in the field.

Over the past 20 years, the Sunflower Festival has provided a platform for individuals with mental disabilities to interact and communicate with members of the local community, contributing to changing negative perceptions and social prejudices towards mental illnesses. This year, marking the 20th anniversary, the festival served as a meaningful occasion for individuals with mental disabilities, their families, and facility staff to understand each other, share courage, and hope.

Governor Lee Won-taek stated, "The 20 years that the Sunflower Festival has walked through have been a time spent with individuals with mental disabilities, changing the world's perspective and correcting thoughts," adding, "I hope to achieve inclusive welfare where no one is marginalized and, as the festival's slogan suggests, look forward to everyone coming together to build the future."
